Match Report - Devon v Hampshire (9.7.16)

We travelled to Hampshire (Lord Wandsworth College) for the return match against Hampshire. Our first match against Hampshire had been such a close match, so another competitive match was on the cards.

Hampshire this time won the toss and decided to bat on a good batting wicket. Devon were encouraged by taking early wickets and Hampshire had lost 3 wickets by the tenth over for just 33. Charlie Dean's (44) fell in the twenty-first over and systematically Devon picked up wickets and Hampshire were bowled out for 112, ten overs short of their innings. Becca Halliday (6-0-20-3) and  Ellen Day (6-1-16-4) picked up the bulk of the wickets, though Sophie Florides (6-4-8-1) consistency with her bowling certainly slowed the runs with her four maidens, one of which was a wicket maiden.

Devon made good ground with the batting and Daisy Meadowcroft batted so well once again for her 50. And unlike the first match against Hampshire, Devon were able to find the gaps a though poised on 112,  lost 2 wickets looking for the winning run, which came from a six from Holly Elsworth. Devon won 118-7 with 9 overs to spare.
