TORQUAY swept Ipplepen aside by nine wickets in a one-sided South Devon T20 final at the Recreation Ground on Friday night.

Ipplepen has upset the formbook by beating Bovey Tracey in the Teignbridge final, but there was no repeat against the Torbay champions.

Pens' skipper Sam Wakeham won the toss and batted - a decision he must have regretted when his side were 21 for five then 32 for eight.

Kazi Szymanski and Ben Williams were too quick up top, then Mitch Pugh (3-4) and Sach Galhenge (2-5) stripped out the middle order.

Williams and Szymanski returned at the end to finish with identical figures of one for nine off four overs.

A ninth-wicket stand of 21 between Ethan Keller (14) and Keith Wakeham (11) kept Torquay out longer than anticipated as Pens limped to 61 all out with two balls to go.

The chase was a brief affair, over and done early in the fifth over.

Keller went for 21 in his first over as George Allen and Pugh got on with it.

Seb Powell did trap Pugh lbw, but Allen's 40 not out off 16 balls sped Torquay to victory.

Torquay now go forward to the Servicemaster Clean T20 finals days at Sidmouth on Sunday, July 24.

Already through are North Devon and Bradninch. Plymouth and West Devon still have some catching up to do.

Cornwood play Plymouth at Plympton tomorrow (Sunday) to determine who will visit Lewdown on Wednesday night in the West Devon final.

A day of T20 action at Harewood House is all part of the qualification process for the Servicemaster Clean Devon T20 final at Sidmouth.

Plymouth and Cornwood square up to each other at 2.30pm.

The day's curtain raiser is the Plymouth area plate final between Plympton and Plymstock. That match starts at 11am.
