SEASON REVIEW

The Under 12 Boys had a very enjoyable and promising first County Age Group season with some mixed but largely successful results.

The side competed in a four-team T15 Tournament at Clifton College at the start of the season where results didn’t fall in our favour despite the high standard of cricket the side played across the day. The boys also had 40 Over fixtures of which there were five spoiled by the rain. Despite this, the side played completed doubles over Cornwall and Wiltshire, with a downpour spoiling what would’ve been a tight finish against Gloucestershire.

Bowling first was the favoured call for the side and this decision was consistently backed up by excellent performances. The highest score the team conceded was 129ao which is a testament to the skills of the boys’ bowling and fielding. The only downside of this was the batters not being able to score more for their own totals!

The most impressive thing about the Under 12 Boys season has been how well-rounded the side has been, with all members contributing to the results. There were some great individual performances along the way but the depth of batting and bowling in this side has been a standout.

All the players can say that they have contributed to the side over the course of the season; with all the boys being exposed to and exploring different roles within the team. The boys have engaged in these challenges and thrown themselves at them. It’s been great to see them develop their skills and adapt to the different scenarios they’ve been faced with. It’s also been the ignition for conversations around the responsibilities that come with them.

A big thank you to the parents for their support and patience, especially when answering some disappointing calls for Sunday morning rain-offs! I would also like to thank Claire Hancock for scoring most of our games.

I hope the players have enjoyed their first full County season as much as I have, and I look forward to seeing how their cricket progresses next season.
