Cricket is a simple game: 1) score as many runs as possible and 2) bowl the opposition out for as few runs as possible. But for this talented group of young players this can be a struggle in their formative years as was reflected in a 29%-win ratio in 2021.

At the start of the 2022 season, we needed to ask our two BIG questions - 1) how can we perform better and give ourselves a greater chance of winning matches? and 2) what do we need to do to ensure we are better next time?

With a lot of core skills development work completed during the winter training programme, player buy-in to a new game plan, players taking a more responsibility for performance and probably the most importantly enjoying playing the game! With this in mind a P14 W4 L10 playing record in 2021 was turned into a P13 PW8 L5 record in 2022 – a win-ratio of 61%!

Fletcher ByrneWe may not have any ‘break out’ stars yet, but what we do have is a great collective behaviour in the team which strives to achieve success. There were many headline grabbing successes along the way including finishing 2nd at the King’s College Festival, 7 Batters scoring over 150 runs, 5 Bowlers taking 10 wickets or more, playing under pressure as all our games went deep, many edge of the seat moments for our travelling army of Parents, ensuring our Captain Fletcher had a great season before the Byrne family jetted off for a new life in Australia after the Festival and many personal performance bests for a number of players which can be seen in the Results summaries.

The confidence gained and successes achieved hopefully bodes well for this group of Players as they look to competing in the Under 14 County Cup competition in 2023. Bring it on!
