Domaschenz and Davies steer Budleigh to victory with time to spare | 'The two Lukes took the game to the bowlers and batted superbly' – Ed Doble

LUKE Domaschenz clattered an unbeaten century to steer Budleigh Salterton to an eight-wicket win over Ipplepen.
Budleigh were asked to improve on Pens’ total of 213 all out – and did it with time to spare.
A stand of 134 for the first wicket between Domaschenz and Luke Davies (70) pointed Budleigh in the right direction.
Domaschenz went on to reach 103 not out as the runs were knocked-off with more than 14 overs to go.
Ipplepen’s batting effort was solid rather than spectacular with runs sprinkled all through the order.
Skipper Matt Beasant made 32, Reuben Stanley top-scored on 36, Toby Holroyd (24) and George Tapley (21) both chipped in, and there was 34 at the end from Ross Kennard.
Best of the bowling for Budleigh came from skipper Ed Doble (3-29) and Sid Fereday (3-41).
For Doble is was a big improvement on the defeat at Plymstock seven days earlier.
“All round it was a very good performance with the ball and in the field,” said Doble.
“The two Lukes took the game to the Ipplepen bowlers and batted superbly.”
Beasant said his side only put in a 50 per cent performance, which cost them.
“There were lots of positives to take from the batting side,” said Beasant. “Our bowling and fielding let us down, and the game got away from us too easily early doors.
“Ultimately, the better side won. Luke Domaschenz’s hundred was excellent, and well deserved.”
IVYBRIDGE moved on from their defeat by Clyst St George with a resounding seven-wicket win at Stoke Gabriel.
Stoke went in fits and starts from 44 for none to 66 for four then 142 for five to 165 all out. Farzad Safi (2-26) got early wickets then Adam Huxtable (4-20) spun through the bottom half. Two run outs helped.
Skipper Jack Tolley had 28 of the first 44 in the laptop, Dan Bullock composed 44 in the middle and Jake Robinson swatted four boundaries in a 24-ball 22 near the end. Thirty-three extras – 20 of them wides – topped-up the Stoke total.
Ivybridge were 47 for three in reply with Abraham Kopparambil (21) among the fallen, having found Issac Withington (2-13 off 9) a handful
Zach Dunn (74no) and Harry Solomon (37no) ended the game as a contest with an unbroken stand of 142.
Victory moved Ivybridge up from fourth to third in the gaggle of clubs behind early leaders Plymstock.
Josh Zimmerman, the Ivybridge captain, said it was a ‘great bouce-back win’, but one that needed a bit of context.
“It was a bit of a mixed bag from us with the ball – and we were lucky that Stoke were not at full strength at times,” said Zimmerman.
“We had some brilliant phases though and our run chase was comfortable. After an excellent opening spell from Isaac. Zach and Harry were faultless.”
Tolley admitted Stoke had to make changes to the side that won at Ipplepen seven days earlier, but that could not excuse the manner of this defeat.
“We put in a great effort but didn't deserve any more than we got,” said Tolley.
“If we want to win more games, batters need to go on and get match-winning scores once they are in – and bowlers need to give less boundary balls.
“I am hoping to have a few returning from injury and unavailability this weekend for the trip to Braunton.”
