Barnstaple & Pilton Ballers Add Sparkle to the Club

Barnstaple & Pilton Ballers women's softball team are the latest club to receive a Discretionary Development Grant from the Tolchards Devon Cricket League, with the grant going towards the cost of softball cricket equipment.
Starting with just eight players, the team's numbers have now doubled, supported by the coaches from Barnstaple & Pilton CC over 20 winter coaching sessions, and the club have now entered the Women’s Softball League for 2025.
However, their efforts don't end there as the women have redecorated the clubhouse and are now represented on the club's management board. They are actively involved in fundraising and sponsorship, with one player securing sponsorship for the playing shirts.
Captain Joanna Smith said: "What started with a few mums from players in the junior section, together with players' wives, has seen the team really grow. We believe that by entering a league, our players will develop even further."
The side are keen to extend their portfolio of matches and would love to hear from other teams looking for games. Please contact Women and Girls Co-ordinator, Clive Ball.
If things go well, there are plans to create a second team for next season. "It has been an amazing experience for the club," says Clive. "Last season, the only cricket that any of them had played was in their own back gardens."
The Discretionary Development Grant scheme is open to all Tolchards Devon Cricket League member clubs. Find out more.
