BARTON cruised to a 10-wicket win at Plympton that put a dent in their hosts’ promotion aspirations.

The men from Harewood Park were only 20 points shy of second place going into the second half of the season. Now they are down in sixth spot with 33 points to make up on Seaton in the second promotion spot.

Plympton were all out for 125 with more than 10 overs to go – and were lucky to get that far having been 32 for five at one stage. Finn Last and Sree Sankaranaryanan had two wickets each at that point.

A stand of 52 between Sam Ford (43) and Shalok Gangatkar (26) restored some respectabily before Stuart Bowker (3-47) split them up. Alex Carr was 20 not out when the last wicket fell.

Barton openers Steve Lewis (64no) and Devanshu Sinha (59no) were into the 30th overs when the latter deposited Gangatkar for two boundaries to win the game.

Said Lewis: “Another top performance in the field taking great catches.

“Bowlers were on the spot and we are finally backing them up with the bat.

“Was nice to get time out in the middle myself and Dev batted fantastically. With two great catches, Dev was definitely man-of-the-match.”

Harry Kandampully, the Plympton captain, had no complaints, other than the absence of any good fortune.

“We were thoroughly beaten,” said Kandamupully. “Barton bowled well and, in the field, took some great catches, converting every half-chance. 

“Our guys tried everything with the ball, but every time Barton played a false shot it landed between the fielders. Nothing went right for us all day.

“We need to put a line under this game and move on quickly to Plymstock this Saturday.”
