BRAUNTON skipper Jon Baglow was more than down in the dumps after his side lost by 34 runs to visiting Ottery St Mary.

Promotion hopefuls Ottery were held to 183 for seven in a rain-reduced 34-over game  - Baglow, Neil Bettis and Jon Higgs taking two wickets each.

Braunton were 113 for two in reply and looking favoutites to win.

Then Bettis got out for 50 and the Braunton batting crumbled to 149 all out.

“Alfie Huxtable (34), Neil and Mark Mitchell (36) have got us into a great position but we didn’t see it through,” said Baglow.

“We lost wickets steadily after Neil got out and once Mark Mitchell went we collapsed.”

Mitchell was sixth out on 142 and once he went it was downhill all the way.

The Reed brothers – Matt (3-34) ad Ollie (2-35) had early wickets, Alex Thurgate (2-22) struck in the middle and two run-outs hastened Braunton’s demise.

Earlier, opener Dan Flower top scored with 69 for Ottery, taking them to 150 for three with help from Kevin Kelly (21) and Rob Crabb (47) in stands of 53 and 87 respectively.
