ANOTHER Devon League old boy is poised to graduate to the international ranks.

West Australian Hilton Cartwright has been named in the 14-man squad for Australia's one-day international series against New Zealand next month.

Hilton Cartwright in a Sidmouth shirt during his season at the club in 2010Cartwright was Sidmouth’s overseas player in 2010, scoring 282 Premier Division runs having come over from the South Perth club for the summer.

Cartwright, 24, belted a century for Australia A against India A in September and started the 2016/17 Sheffield Shield season well, with two half-centuries in the Warriors' first two games.

The middle-order batsman averages 43.41 with the bat and has 12 wickets through 14 first-class games.

“Hilton bowls useful aggressive medium-pace and is a very good striker of the ball,” Australia’s interim chairman of selectors Trevor Hohns said.

“He is an exciting young prospect for Australian cricket and we have been watching him at the pathway level for some time now.”

A long list of players have gone on from the Devon League to play international cricket, including Sidmouth’s Andrew Mathieson, who took a break from the club in 2015 to play for New Zealand against England.

Among the current players on the international circuit are South Africans Kyle Abbott (Lewdown), J P Duminy (Exmouth), Vernon Phillander (Budleigh Salterton) and South African Irishman Max Sorrensen (South Devon).

The list of former internationals is headed by Australians Chris Rogers (Exeter/North Devon) and Stuart Macgill (Heathcoat/Exmouth).

South Africans Jacques Rudolph (Paignton) and Fanie deVillers) and New Zealanders Adam Parore (Barton) and Roger Twose (Paignton/Torquay) also represented their country.
