Day One | Day Two | Day Three

PETER Trego and Max Curtis both completed centuries as Devon racked-up the runs against Wales at Pontarddulais.

Trego (105no) and Curtis (60no) were the not-out batsmen as Devon reached 186 for two before rain stopped play on day one of three.

Somerset all-rounder Trego, Devon’s match professional this season, already had a place in the county record books for scoring a century on his three-day debut.

By the time Trego was third man out for Devon having made 159, the score had reached 274 for three. He had a second entry in the history books and Curtis had re-written one of his own.

The stand between Curtis and Trego (159) added 244 for the third wicket, which created a new record across all the formats played in Unicorns and Minor Counties cricket since Devon joined in 1901.

Nick Folland - record holder with Andy PughIn two-day cricket the third wicket record was 180 set by Featherstone Hargreave Carroll and Freddie Beech against Berkshire in 1914.

The Grade game record for two-day, one-innings games played for two seasons in 1998 and 1999 was 199 set by Nick Folland and Andy Pugh against Oxfordshire at Torquay.

The old three-day record was set by Curtis and Matt Thompson, who hoisted 168 against Wiltshire at Devizes in 2014. Whatever way you look at it, the new record smashes them all.

Dave Tall, the Devon team manager, said: “Max was the perfect foil for Trego, rotating the strike well to prevent Wales getting settled, and he carried on in much the same way with Golding.”

Curtis had reached a career-best 131 at the end of a marathon stay that lasted 237 balls and included 16 boundaries.

Golding chipped in with 84 off 67 balls, Thompson made 20 and Dan Goodey thrashed 29 not out from 11 deliveries, as Devon reached 450 for six in their 90 overs.

Luke Cheshire (3-42) was the only Wales bowler to take more than two wickets.

Wales had 49 overs to bat last night and were 112 for five when time was up. Devon will aim to bowl Wales out before lunch and enforce the follow-on in an attempt to win the match.

Devon 450-6 (P D Trego 159, M H Curtis 131, M C Golding 84; L M Cheshire 3-42), Wales 112-5 (O M D Kolk 47no; H M Whitlock 2-29, D J Goodey 2-14). Bonus points: Devon 7, Wales 2.
