WEST TWO

PLYMSTOCK 2ndXI skipper Marc Woodward stroked an unbeaten 68 that set his side on course for a 120-run win at Whitchurch in West Two.

Charlie BarriballWhitchurch only had eight players at the start time and one of those was Tavistock’s Charlie Barriball, making a guest appearance for his former club. A birthday party had decimated the Whitchurch line-up.

Woodward and Eddie Dann (43) put on 60 and there was a rapid 29 from Alex Thomas as Plymstock found the gaps in the field to reach 213.

The left-arm spin of Barry Megicks (4-2 in 8 balls) finished off the Plymstock batting after Richard Potts (3-40) had tied them down mid-innings.

Whitchurch batted for 20.2 overs to reach 93 all out. Barriball top scored on 28 and Ben Powell made 20.

Ian Whalley spun his way to figures of three for 28.

Plympton skipper Jason Degg blamed himself in part for the 54-run defeat at the hands of visiting Yelverton.

Ben Grove (49) and Harry Nicholls (41) were Yelverton’s leading run getters in  tally of 220 for eight, Surya Sursesh, Plympton’s 14-year-old leg-spinner took the bowling honours ahead of Steff Hutchins (2-19).

Degg top scored with 40 and Alex Carr made 30 in the Plympton reply of 166 all out. There were three wickets each for Sam Crompton and Mike Lemmings.

Said Degg: “We dropped five catches and had we taken them a reasonable Yelverton total would have been around 160.

“I am afraid to say we made a slow start when we batted and I was one of the offenders.”
