TAVISTOCK’S lead at the top of the Tolchards DCL A Division was cut to just two points after the West Devon derby against Plympton was abandoned at tea.

Bradninch beat North Devon by six wickets in a game that did go the distance to jump up to second spot behind the Moorlanders.

Shaun Daymond top scored for Tavistock with a patient 61 in a 48-over total of 219 for four. Skipper Daymond and Billy Barriball (46) put on 105 for the third Tavvy wicket.

Daymond, whose 61 came off 112 balls, also added 33 with James White, who finished on 36 not out.

The only Plympton bowler to take more than one wicket was debutant Ernest Masuku. The Zimbabwe A international had two wickets for 60 runs.

Spinners Josiah Caunter (0-25) and Elliot Hamilton (1-31) kept the runs down when they bowled.

Captain Daymond said the weather ruined what was shaping up to be an interesting game of cricket.

“Our 219 was only a par score and the game was in the balance before the rain came,” said Daymond.

“Plympton bowled well and consistently, so we had to work hard for our runs.”

Tavistock are away to North Devon this Saturday.
