SANDFORD go into Saturday’s derby clash with Bradninch at Creedy Park on a high after walloping Plympton by 101 runs.

Sandford made 225 for five – Matt Hopkins top scoring on 79 not out – then shot out Plympton for 124 with more than 10 overs to spare.

Skipper Dan Robotham top scored for Plympton with 24- and as he went in at 42 for five the game had just about got away by then.

Sandford, who were without former Devon players Matt Theedom and Adrian Small, batted in partnerships for the first 40 over to build a platform and has wickets in hand for a dash at the end.

Toby Lochead (20) and Russ Discombe (36) opened up with 45, Discombe and Hopkins added 47 then Ryan Glass (44) and Hopkins took the score to 166 for three.

After Glass fell it was Hopkins who led the way as Sandford shovelled 59 runs into the scorebook in the last 10 overs.

Matt Gregory and Andy Walter (2-35) bowled tight spells for Plympton, who otherwise struggled to find wicket-taking balls.

Plympton were pinned down from the start by Sandford seamer Jamie Palmer and Shaun Fryett with two wickets each.

Glass had a couple including the wicket that broke a stand of 43 between Robotham and Ollie Gannon, which was hauling Plympton out of the more.

Pete Steer (2-38) cleaned out Robotham and with him gone Palmer returned to claim two more wickets for match figures of four for 13.

“With a number of players missing, not just Small and Theedom, it was a great result,” said Glass.

“It was a good toss to win as it got difficult to bat on in the second innings.

“We set the innings up well with wickets in hand at the end.

“Matt Hopkins batted superbly on a slow wicket, then we bowled excellently.

“Shaun Fryett took his chance having bowled well for the seconds over the past couple years and Jamie Palmer bowled brilliantly for his four for 13.”
