BARTON skipper Adam Parker praised his team for their display in the seven-wicket win over Hatherleigh.

Hatherleigh were bowled out for 104 in the 45th over – no one making more than Gareth Tidball (25).

Hatherleigh were 28 for three after an early duffing up from Andy McVeigh (3-19), the struggled further against Barton captain Adam Parker.

Tidball was among Parker’s victims on his way to a five-for-16 haul.

Barton got over the line with 10 overs to spare having seldom been troubled en-route.

They got away to a 49-run start thanks to openers Steve Lewis (23) and Andy Hele (30), lost three wickets for 13 runs to Mark Lake and Matt Thomas, the set off again with Shaun Needham (20) and Parker (21) the not-out batters when the job was done.

Hatherleigh are at home to high-flying Paignton this Saturday.

“It was a much needed win for us and our best team performance to date this year,” said Parker.

Our bowling and fielding clicked and it was good to have a solid start from the openers, something we haven't quite got right so far this season.

“We kept the pressure up and when we weren't taking wickets we kept the runs down.

“Batting was tough as their bowlers didn't make it easy, but credit to the guys who chipped-in and worked the ball around to see us over the line.”

Barton are away to Budleigh Salterton on Saturday.

Hatherleigh skipper Lake said although there were mitigating circumstances, the team didn’t play well enough.

“We were on the end of four terrible umpiring decisions, but weren't good enough on the day, especially with the ball early doors,” said Lake.

A winning score would probably have been 150.

“Barton bowled well and put the bad ball away when it came on a low wicket.

“We need to improve fast if we want to stay in this division.”
