ADAM Huxtable and Jeewan DeSilva both hit half-centuries in Ivybridge’s 81-run win over South Hams rivals Dartington & Totnes.

After Abraham Kopparambil (22) and Harry Soloman (27) got the Bridge up to 84 for two, Huxtable and DeSilva really took on the bowling.

Huxtable, who had a brief spell with D&T this time last year before returning to Filham, was the dominant partner in a stand of 74 with DeSilva. He made 61.

Sri Lankan DeSilva didn’t hang about as he made 57 off 40 balls with two sixes and seven fours before he was fifth out at 196.

Chip-ins from George Thompson (10) and Pete Abraham (14) took the score along to 223 for nine.

Chris Cook (2-19) and Nick Dennis (0-22) were the most effective of the D&T bowlers.

Abraham and James Bullock had an early wicket each as D&T laboured to 14 for two.

South African Ed Verrall (41), Cook (13) and Kalon Veale (23) upped the tempo of the chase for a while.

Josh Coker (3-16) put the brake on and the visitors abandoned the chase a long way out.

There was plenty of safety first batting from Will Gornall and Harold Stevenson as D&T pottered along to 152 for seven.

Ivybridge are a very good team and play their home ground very well,” said D&T captain James Howrihane.

“We batted 45 overs for the first time this year against the strongest bowling line up we faced.

“If we just keep battling away, results will come.”

“Once Dartington were five down they didn't really look interested in chasing runs and shut up shop on what was a very good batting pitch,” said Bridge captain Kelvin Trent.

“We bowled really well again, but dropped a couple of catches and were unlucky with chances that narrowly avoided fielders.”

Ivybridge stay joint second in the latest table with Plymstock, who had the edge in a high-scoring game at Thorverton.
