TAVISTOCK picked up the anticipated win at  bottom side South Devon, who didn’t have the bowling firepower to defend a total of 173 for eight.

Divan Marais top scored for South Devon with 60 not out. He went in at 56 for two and batted through to the end.

Opener David Knowles was next best for South Devon with 45.

Richard Beaumont and Jon Martin chipped in with a brace of 18s.

James McGahey and skipper Shaun Daymond had three wickets each and there were two more for Callum Worth.

Openers Dave Ball and Aaron Churchill (31) got Tavvy off to a 65 run start.

Ball and James White added 25 then Dave Manning and Ball put on 64 for the third wicket.

By the time Manning was  run-out for 42, it was all over bar the shouting.

Ball carried his bat for 69.

It was Tavistock’s first win of the league season – and one skipper Daymond was glad to stash away.

“We knew South Devon would be a team we could beat, but it's not always easy in this division as anyone can beat anyone on their day and I'm glad we performed well with bat and ball,” said Daymond.

We restricted them to 173 on a high-200 pitch.

“Dave Ball’s was a great innings, well supported by Aaron and Dave.

“That's the first win under the belt and I hope that kicks us on a run now.”
