CORNWOOD 2nd XI did not hang around on the way to a nine-wicket win over Plymouth 2nd XI.

Plymouth were bowled out for 185 in the last of their 45 overs – Luke Richardson and Josh Goodliffe taking three wickets each.

Harry Stephenson (33) and Peter Evans (28) made early runs for Plymouth, but there was little else to report until Dave Burke (16) and Stanley Langmead (34no) put on 46 for the eighth wicket.

It felt like we were tight with the ball in the middle after a bit of a lazy start,: said Cornwood captain Robin Dart.

“Josh Goodliffe (3-43) and Dan Skeemer (2-29) bowled two excellent spells. Although we dropped a few chances late on, Luke Richardson (3-23) mopped up the tail to get us the full points

Opener Ben Griffiths then pummelled the Plymouth bowling for 103 not out off just 86 balls – 16 fours, three sixes – as Cornwood won at a gallop.

Jack Brown (42) was there for the first 125 runs of the pursuit. Aaron Richards (24no) was there at the end when four leg-byes won the game for the Corns.

“Our top three were at their destructive best for us to chase down 186 in 26 overs,” said Cornwood captain Dart.

“I was super stoked for Ben Griffiths to get his first ton for the club and hope he gets another before the season is out.”

Plymstock’s 40-point lead over second-placed Cornwood in a division with only one promotion place means the odds on going up are stacked against Dart’s men. Not that he is giving up.

“We'll keep trying to put pressure on the leaders and hope for a favour elsewhere,” said Dart.
