PLYMPTON dropped into the A Division bottom two after losing by six-wickets at Lewdown.

Imran Ali Pasha top scored with 79 as Plympton got to 240 for seven a roundabout way.

Andy Walter (31) made early runs but from 76 for two it went a bit wrong as Plympton subsided to 95 for four.

Among the wicket takers for Lewdown was former Plymouth Albion player Billy Searle (2-25) who has just joined Premiership side Bristol.

Leon Horn (3-63) turned the screw on Plympton too as they meandered to 109 for five.

The rot stopped with a sixth-wicket stand of 107 between Imran Ali and Jeremy Williams.

Williams, who went in at 76 for two, made 54 in support of Imran Ali, who smote five fours and four sixes in his 49-ball knock. He was out in the last over to Horn.

Lewdown all-rounder Johannes Wessels is arguably the stand-out player in the A Division this season and showed why with an unbeaten 126.

In four trips to the crease this season Wessels has made 81, 149, 68 and now 126.

Tom Pengelly, Horn and Searle were the bit-part players as Wessels took Lewdown to 93 for three in reply.

Harry Geering arrived then and his stand of 137 with Wessels broke the back of the chase.

Geering went for 72 with the target down to 11 and the game over as a contest.

There were two wickets for Craig Donohue but at a price of 51 runs.

Dan Robotham said Plympton aren’t firing on enough cylinders yet and need to do some fine-tuning at training.

“We were not at our best with the ball or in the field which cost us,” said Robotham.

“Jez (Williams) and Imran batted beautifully to get us up to a decent total, which was pleasing, but we just haven't got anywhere near top gear yet.

“We will continue to work hard this week and focus on the basics which have let us down recently.”

Lewdown captain Tallan Burns saw the game from a different viewpoint.

“I thought we did well to restrict them because at one stage their big partnership was going well,” he said.

“However, having missed a few run outs and dropping a few catches we let them score more than they should.

“Johan was once again incredible. He and Harry batted very well together.

“We will be looking to continue our good start to the season.”
