ROB Clarke took four wickets and Corey Sinclair three more to set Chudleigh on course for victory over Ipplepen.

Pens were bowled out for 142 in the 43rd of their 50 overs, which Chudeigh knocked off with the minimum of fuss.

Chudleigh sit in mid-table, 15 points behind second-placed Paignton.

Ipplepen remain without a win at the bottom of the table, 22 points adrift of safety with a third of the season almost gone.

Pens’ jogged along to 79 for none thanks to openers Dave Harris (41) and Jack Lewis (36), only for Clarke to spin them out Harris then Mawgan Penrice in consecutive overs.

Lewis was third out on 92 – Clarke again – and when Sam deFriend (17) was fourth to go on 112 a steady decline set in.

No batsman made more than nine as Ipplepen lost their last six wickets for 24 runs.

Matt Heather (2-25) got into the middle order, the Sinclair finished off the tail.

Chudleigh skipper Ed Foreman made 41 of the first 68 on the board. After seeing off miserly new-ball pair Ethan Keller and Paul Thomas, the runs were knocked off quickly.

Mark Solway (23) was second out. Sinclair (24) and Heather (28no) put the outcome beyond doubt.

“We started really well then the wheels came off as the bowling tightened up,” said Chudleigh captain Keith Wakeham.

“No pace on the ball and 112-3 fell away to 142.

“Our spinners bowled too many four balls to build any pressure.

“It was the first really bad day we've had, so we need to forget it and move on.”
