Devon Cricket to host Women and Girl’s Finals Day Celebration

Devon Cricket will be celebrating the culmination of the successful first year of the Devon Girls Cricket League by combining all finals into a celebration of the Women and Girls’ game.

The celebration, which will take place at Exmouh CC on 18 September, will see all teams, managers and volunteers involved in girls, women’s softball and women’s hardball cricket teams across the county invited to a celebratory picnic; in appreciation of their hard work in helping to grow the profile of the Devon Women’s League and the profile of the women and girls’ game.

“What better way to finish the season than a celebration of all the women and girl’s cricket throughout the year. The hard work and dedication of volunteers and clubs has seen the female participation across the county double in one season and this is shown in the increase in league teams across the women’s softball and hardball game.” - Ann-Marie Presswell, Women and Girl’sDevelopment Officer.

Trophy presentations will be taking place from 1pm onwards as the women and girls cricket family come together for a picnic on the outfield. Teaming up with the Devon Women’s Cricket League and Devon Women’s Softball League, all teams who have been victorious in their divisions and beyond will collect their silverware and certificates.

Reflecting on the growth of the sport over the past 12 months, Hannah Clark, Chair of Devon Women’s Cricket League, said “we are so pleased to raise the profile of the women’s game and all the achievements both on the off the field.”

Ann-Marie echoed Hannah’s sentiment, saying that “the newly established girl’s leagues have been a great success” adding that “it is only right that our celebration of the game reflects that.”

The Finals Day Celebration will also be the chance to recognise and thank the vast number of volunteers for their hard work over the last year. Without their selfless dedication and passion for the sport, it would not be possible to continue growing the women’s side of the sport.

In recognition, Devon Cricket will be announcing the nominees and winners of the following awards:

  • Coach of the Year

  • Inspirational Young Volunteer (ages 11-16 and 17-25)

  • Balancing the Game: a person at the club who has championed the women and girls game, making the club environment, both on and off the pitch more inclusive

  • Leading the way: a club or league member who has worked for several years to grow the women and girl's game, provide playing opportuntites and break down barriers in the sport.

  • Taking Control: Recognition of females in the role of an official, both umpiring and scoring.

“Alongside the Devon Women’s Cricket League, it will be an honour to award all the players and volunteers for their successes this season” - Ann-Marie.

Thanks to Exmouth Cricket Club, two pitches will be available so that all the finals can be played in one day. Congratulations to all the teams below who have made it to the final.

The day is open to everyone to come down and celebrate the great success that Devon has had as a county this year in growing the game for women and girls.
