TAVISTOCK made it two wins on the trot in the B Division with a seven-wicket verdict over Shobrooke Park.

Opener Chris Ford top scored for Shobrooke with 64 as they made 204 for six in 45 overs.

Dave Manning’s unbeaten 81 saw Tavistock home with nearly 10 overs to spare.

Victory lifts Tavistock to fourth from bottom in a congested table. They are 32 points behind the leaders and 15 clear of the third relegation place.

Opener Ford was fourth out for Shobrooke on 141 – the second of three scalps for Tavvy skipper Shaun Daymond, who trapped Andrew Codling lbw next ball.

Left-hander Richard Pyle thumped 31 off 32 balls in the pursuit of late runs.

Dave Ball (48) and Ian Gray (17) got Tavvy away to a 49-run start and by the time Ball was dispatched Tavvy were 103 for three.

Manning, who faced 73 balls for his 81 and hit 11 boundaries, put on 104 unbroken with Daymond (32no) to win the game.

Said Daymond: “it was solid performance all round.

“We restricted them well and bowled good lines.

“The pitch was definitely a 250 wicket, so we knew if we batted sensibly we could get the target and we did.”

Disappointed Shobrooke skipper Chris Simpson said his side’s batting hadn’t been good enough – and there were problems with the bowling too.

“We needed another 50 runs,” said Simpson.

“Myself and Jacques Budricks both got starts and should have kicked on to greater scores.

“Our bowling wasn't up to scratch either, too many loose balls.

“It is one to forget as we start preparing for Thorverton this Saturday.”
