IVYBRIDGE went past Bideford into second place thanks to a 37-run win at lowly South Devon.

Jeewan DeSilva led the way with the bat for Ivybridge, hitting 56 at better than run-a-ball rate in a total of 217 all out.

Harry Solomon (23) and DeSilva put on 49 for the fourth wicket and after they went Kelvin Trent and George Thompson moved the score along by 41.

The last three wickets went for 13 runs as Ivybridge swung the bat.

Skipper Jonny Martin (2-22 off 9) was the most effective of the South Devon bowlers. Richard Beaumont (2-40) and Mike Smith (1-41) were in four-an-over territory.

South Devon lost opener Dave Knowles in the second over to Peter Abraham (2-27), but got to 74 without further problems thanks to Mark Andrews (46) and Richard Beaumont.

Four wickets went for 20 runs – two each for DeSilva (2-35) and Solomon (3-29) – including dangerman Divan Marais for 19.

Paul Hooper with a brisk 52 and Martin (22) added 52 for the sixth wicket to keep South Devon in the game.

Martin went at 146 for six – Solomon the man responsible – and Hooper to Josh Zimmerman at 174.

Zimmerman spun though the lower order to take three for 22 as South Devon went from 174 for six to 180 all out.

Victory means Ivybridge are a point behind Plymstock and 10 ahead of Bideford.
