HEATHCOAT 2nd XI were on the wrong end of 53-run verdict when they met Exmouth 2nd XI in the C Division East.

Skipper Richard Baggs top scored with 36 in Exmouth’s all-out total of 154.

After Baggs was fifth out with the score on 56, the bottom half of the order came good with Matt Edworthy (31no), Jonny Martin (18) and Elijah Payne (13) working hard to add 98 for the last five wickets.

Himansh Aligh (3-45) led the bowling effort aided and abetted by Matt Hague, Joe Parkinson and Lewis Fountain with two wickets each.

Heathcoat were not in a great place at 68 for five, but with Jonny Chilcott still there they had a chance.

Once Chilcott (23) was sixth out at 76 there was a steady decline to 101 all out. The damage was done by seamer Martin and left-arm spinner Matt Coult, who took four wickets each.

Coult was on a hat-trick after removing Chilcott and Lewis Fountain in successive balls, but Nathan White managed to avoid being the third victim.

SHOBROOKE Park were six-wicket losers against Teignmouth & Shaldon in their first C East appointment of the summer.

Chris Ford with 22 not out from 86 balls faced was the only batter to make much headway against the Teignmouth & Shaldon bowling attack, which was led by former Bovey Tracey and Devon seamer Ryan Bougourd.

Bougourd has returned to his original club this season and his stats of four wickets for 11 runs from eight overs suggest he will be a handful for opposing batsmen.

Carl Woolnough had three for 20 down the order to help remove Shobrooke for 111. There were more extras – which included 33 wides than individual runs off the bat.

An opening stand of 65 between Ruben Minnaar (26) and Seamus McKenna (52) pointed T&S towards victory.

By the time McKenna was fourth out on 103 – to Joe Harris (2-15) – there was no doubt how the game was going to end.

It's the end of the line for Braunton opener Ed Yeo, who nicked this delivery from Luan Liebenberg through to Alphington & Countess Wear keeper Nick Halse

BRAUNTON were on the rack against Alphington & Countess Wear, but wriggled out of trouble and went on to win by 56 runs.

Toby Lochead (17) and Sam Reddick (19) got Braunton off to a solid start, but wickets fell to Alphas’ skipper James Bovey (4-30) and Dylan Spier (2-19) as 45 for one became 71 for seven.

The rot stopped with Jon Baglow (23), Ian Roberts (35) and James Lake (23) who got the final total up to 158 all out.

Alphas’ opener Mark Halse (45) defied most things Braunton could chuck at him until he was fifth out on 61. The only other score in double figures was the 11 made by Nick Halse.

Tidy bowling from Teriq Worrell and James Lake put A&CW behind the clock early on. Meanest of them all were Baglow (4-14 off nine) and Steve Moore (3-11 off eight).

SIDMOUTH cruised to a four-wicket win at North Devon as they opened yet another attempt to get out of the C Division East.

North Devon opener Robert Ayre made a top score of 76 not out from 126 balls in the home side’s total of 179 for nine. Ayre was supported along the way by Fred King (31) in a stand that added 54 for the fifth wicket.

Sidmouth’s most successful bowlers were dad and lad Miles (2-35) and lad Liam Dalton (3-26).

Jordan Fowler (20) and George Lloyd (34) got the Sidmouth chase going and from 98 for three Anthony Griffiths took over. He finished unbeaten on 36 when the target was reached with more than 11 overs to go.

OTTERY St Mary snatched a last-ball win over Uplyme & Lyme Regis in a game that could barely have been any closer.

Preston Hilless opened his Uplyme account with a top score of 77 and with chip-ins from Joe Elsworth (43), skipper Sam Farrow (2) and Andy Harrison (33) a total of 223 for seven went in the book.

Sam O’Nyons (3-42) was the only Ottery bowler with more than one wicket.

An opening stand of 129 between skipper Alex Clements (73) and Keith Moody (69) pointed Ottery in the right direction. Four wickets for Jack Lamb-Wilson – including dangerman Neil Davey for 27 – put the game back in the balance.

Ottery reached the last over from Lamb-Wilson needing six to win with five wickets left and lost Rhys Norman early on.

It came down to two off the final ball, which O’Nyons and Jody Clements obtained by scampering through for two byes.
