PLYMPTON did enough in their rain-ruined game against Paignton to stay out out of the A Division bottom two.

Veteran batsman Andy Walter top scored with 58 as Plympton totalled 246 for eight in their 50 overs.

Paignton were 33 for none in the sixth over when rain and poor light stopped play.

With maximum batting bonus points in the bank, Plympton opened up a seven-point lead over Hatherleigh in the tussle to avoid going down with apparently doomed Ipplepen.

Plympton’s early order batting did a workmanlike job of seeing off new-ball pair Kevin Hinton and Rob Shergold, although they found Stephen George (2-32) more of a handful.

Josh Mailing (20) and Dan Robotham (30) were the early run getters before Walter got settled.

Walter, who went in at 64 for one, held the middle order together up to 146 for six.

Young spinner Harry Ward (2-36) found a way to remove Walter, but the runs continued to flow.

Imran Ali Pasha (45) and Matt Gregory (47) slammed 90 between them in 12 overs to secure all five batting points.

Plympton skipper Dan Robotham picked out his highlights before the low points.

“The batters batted really well all the way down and showed a positive mentality from the start which got us to a decent total.

“I was disappointed that we didn't get the game in as we were taken off for bad light when conditions hadn't changed all day.”
