IVYBRIDGE captain Adam Huxtable praised his bowlers for their efforts in a curtailed A Division game against North Devon in the Sandhills at Instow.

North Devon got as far as 228 for five in 47 overs – further than anyone else in the entire league – thanks largely to a second-wicket stand of 133 between Tom Ansell (82) and Jack Moore (78).

Moore added another 36 with the middle order after Harry Solomon (2-29) spun out former Devon opener Ansell.

Said Huxtable: “I was very happy with the shift the lads put in.

“Josh Coker (1-43 off 9) and Mickey Copeland (2-44) bowled tidy spells – and Tom Worth (0-43) was very unlucky to not take a wicket or two.

“Had we taken our chances, I feel that we could have restricted them further.”

[O] NORTH Devon are eagerly anticipating the arrival of overseas all-rounder Definate (corr) Mawadzi ahead of Saturday’s A Division trip to Budleigh Salterton

The Zimbabwean – a batter who bowls off-spin – plays all three formats of the game for Moutaineers. He is due to arrive on Thursday.

BRIDESTOWE & Belstone were 105 for two against visiting Thorverton when rain stopped play at the halfway stage.

Although opener Paul Penberthy went cheaply to Ben Slaviero thanks to an impressive catch by James Elviss, a depleted B&B side largely coped with the Thorverton attack.

Jake Choules, the Thorverton captain, said it as a typical early-season showing, not helped by bad weather and a team with gaps in it.

“It was good to be back out there, but still a lot of rustiness to shake off if we want to compete in the top half this season,” said Choules.

“Dan Robbins (1-34) created half-chances and Stu Tait (0-19) deserved more.

“A week closer to having some important players back.”

HIGHLIGHTS were few and far between at Kilmington, where Torquay & Kingskerswell were the visitors

Torquay & Kingskerswell claimed two Kilmington wickets two balls apart – one each for Alex Peggie (2-19) and James Tyler (1-17) – and Killy’s Luke Meek hit Harry Passenger and Harry Baxendale for four boundaries between them for his 20 not out from 15 balls.

“Luke looked good,” said Kilmington captain Oli Reed of his Aussie newbie. ”Think he is going to be a serious player.”

Tom Gooding (11) had the only other double-figure score for Kilmington in their tally of 62 for three.

THE mid-Devon derby between Cullompton and Heathcoat only reached the 14th over before it was called off.

Cullompton were 46 for three when the teams came off with new recruit Felix Joseph (ex-Exeter), on 16 not out.

Tinashe Kamunhukamwe, Cully’s Zimbabwean import for the summer, opened-up with 14.

There were two wickets for Heathcoat’s Freddie Bucknell and a third for New Zealander Archie Goodrick.

Jamie Drew, Heathcoat’s new skipper, took the positives where he could.

“It was a shame about the weather, but good to see Archie and Freddie bowl well with the new ball,” said Drew.
