B DIVISION BRIEFING –WEEK TEN
Bideford (9th) v Budleigh Salterton (2nd)
Bideford (Jack Ford): James Hayter back into the side. Just looking for more consistency in the second half of the season. We haven't been anywhere near the levels we know we can be at and that we have shown at times. No better time to start than putting on an improved show to what we did against Budleigh to start the season.
Budleigh Salterton (Ed Doble): Unfortunately, I have to miss this one. Jimmy Doble and Ollie Blakeman come back in to the side, which is a huge bonus.
Braunton (6th) v Clyst St George (3rd)
Braunton (Sam Reddick): We have a few injuries effecting selection. James Lake remains injured this week, and Jon Baglow hurt his knee playing for Devon Over-50s this week. Jason Raynor comes back in, along with Sam Bithell who returns from holiday. Andrew Paddison and Pete Needham have come up as well. A few changes but still a strong XI. Aims for the second half remain to win as many games as possible. We have been competitive every single week and are looking to put a run of wins together to prove to this league what we are about in the second half.
Clyst St George (Dan Kendall): Aim is for all of us to add another five-10 per cent to our performances. We’re pleased with a lot of the cricket we’ve played, and I’d like to see us kick-on. We’ve bounced back well after a couple of tough seasons. A good initial target is to reverse the four defeats we’ve had in the first half, beginning with Braunton this Saturday.
Ipplepen (8th) v Abbotskerswell (10th)
Ipplepen (Matt Beasant): Both sides will go into the game with a bit of confidence. There’s still a lot of cricket to play this season, so we’re not putting any more pressure on ourselves than we normally would. Obviously, doing the double over the neighbours is what we are striving for. But we are aware that Abbots have a lot of talent and ability and have been boosted by the arrival of overseas Anthony Miller. They are a different side to the one we played first-up. We need to focus on what we’ve done well so far this season and make sure we put in a complete performance. Henry Alsop is unavailable this week, Noah Rider comes in to replace him as the only change.
Abbotskerswell (Toby Codd): It’s a huge week. Not only is it a derby but also key for the table. Hoping last week showed us a formula for how we want to play and win games. Hoping to build that momentum. Charlie Smout-Cooper comes back in after fathering duties at Woodlands last week. Max Yates also in.
Ivybridge (4th) v Bovey Tracey II (5th)
Ivybridge (Josh Zimmerman): One change. Jake Dunn back in for Sam Kidd. We’ve been steady without being spectacular, winning four and losing four. The next couple of games will define our aspirations for the year. A couple of wins and I’d back us to push on.
Bovey Tracey II (Dan Green): Aim is to finish in top five whilst improving with the bat. Team news. Selection is tough this week with a lot available, Tom Andrew and Gethin Williams come down to 2nd XI. We have Archie Christophers back. Ben Steer has returned to football this week.
Plymstock (top) v Stoke Gabriel (7th)
Plymstock (Tom Mitch): Team not completely confirmed yet. Aim is to back up the great first half, we’ve put ourselves in a good position but nothing is done yet, we need to keep putting in performances that got us to the position we’re in now
Stoke Gabriel (Jack Tolley): Looking for more consistency in selection which should transfer on field. If we play our best cricket, we should be able to push for another top-half finish. Myself, Jake Robinson, Kyle Lardner in for Mike Meech, Dan Bullock and Sanjog. Plymstock will be a tough game but we back ourselves to beat anyone on our day!
