BOVEY Tracey 2nd XI skipper Dan Green battered Plymstock's bowling to accelerate his side towards a five-wicket win.
Plymstock, all out for 158, appeared to have Bovey on the ropes at 34 for five in reply when Green ambled out to join Ed Foreman in the middle.
Adam Frost (3-14) and Chris Davies (2-30) had run through the top order with relative ease. Things were about to get a lot tougher.
Green did not score a run from the first 10 balls he faced. Dispatching Ian Whalley for four signalled the start of the assault. Four more fours and seven sixes followed from the next 31 deliveries faced as Green cut loose.
While Foreman was compiling a relatively sedate 52 not out at the other end, and was put down on 20, Green hurtled to 72 not out. Biffing Whalley for 19 in an over helped.
Unbroken
The stand between Foreman and Green added 128 unbroken in just 13 overs as Bovey raced to victory. Green only offered on half-chance while batting that Plymstock were unable to take.
Plymstock’s all-out total of 158 was a sum-of-the-parts affair with no single contribution greater than Chester Oldfield’s 33 batting first wicket down.
Connor Porter made 31 – he was involved in stands that added 78 – and there were runs down the order from Josh Sumner and Fraser Cowen, both of whom made 20.
Green – the standout candidate for man of the match – topped the Bovey bowling stats with three for 35. Freddie Harvey and Ben Steer took two wickets each.
Plymstock skipper Tom Mitch, watching from the boundary due to injury, said: “Bowling wise, Frosty and Chris Davies were outstanding.
“Dan Green was brutal, but we need to find ways to get these guys out, rather than hoping for a chance.”
