Results may not always have fallen Clyst St George’s way in 2026, but there were still plenty of reasons for optimism by the end of the summer.
A victory over the eventual Division Two champions and a run to the semi-finals of the T20 Plate provided two of the highlights of a season which showed what Clyst are capable of when everything clicks.
In the league, Clyst finished fourth after a challenging campaign, recording one victory and ending the season with 24 points.
That win arrived in August and was an impressive one. Clyst posted 170 for nine from their 35 overs before bowling eventual champions Hatherleigh out for 108 in 23.3 overs to seal a 62-run victory.
There were also promising signs with the bat against Taunton Deane. In the first league meeting between the sides, Clyst made 181 for six from their 35 overs, although Taunton responded strongly to complete a nine-wicket victory.
The return fixture produced another sizeable Clyst total. Faced with a daunting 333 to win after Taunton had made 332 for five, Clyst batted through their 35 overs to reach 187 for nine.
Plympton proved too strong in August, making 283 for four before dismissing Clyst for 154, while Hatherleigh gained revenge for their earlier defeat when they bowled Clyst out for 35 and chased the target without losing a wicket.
Clyst’s remaining scheduled fixture against Plympton was conceded.

Ali West narrowly finished as Clyst St George’s leading league run-scorer with 144 runs from six innings.
Her season included two half-centuries, with a highest score of 72 coming against Plympton.
Charlotte Taylor was only one run behind on 143 and also passed fifty during the campaign, making a best of 66 against Taunton Deane.
Alyssia Hayes completed the leading three with 125 runs from five innings. Her best score of 73 came against Hatherleigh, and having been dismissed only four times she finished with the best average of the trio at 31.25.

Bella Wells led Clyst’s wicket-taking with six wickets. Her best figures of two for eight came in the 62-run victory over Hatherleigh, helping Clyst bowl the eventual champions out for 108.
Taylor added four wickets to her 143 runs to complete a useful all-round campaign, while Sophia Esson took three wickets, including best figures of three for 16.
Iona Murrin also finished the season with three league wickets.
Clyst also enjoyed a strong T20 Plate campaign, winning their group before eventually losing out to Taunton Deane in the semi-final.
Although the league season proved difficult at times, beating the eventual Division Two champions and reaching the last four of the T20 Plate showed there is plenty to build on.
With several strong individual performances and encouraging signs across both formats, Clyst have laid a solid foundation as they look ahead to the 2027 season.
