ALPHINGTON & Countess Wear will be playing C East cricket again next season following a promotion-sealing eight-wicket win over Woodbury & Newton St Cyres.
Woodbury were bowled out for 84 in the 24th over, which A&CW needed just 15 overs to wipe out.
Ahmad Nawabil, who went in at seven wickets down, top scored for Woodbury & NSC with 19.
All five bowlers used by A&CW skipper Lawrence Marsh – himself, Ben Pinkney, Ethan Goddard, Tynan Hill and Jake Pollard – took two wickets each.
Goddard (34), James Bovey (21) and Marsh (19) were the primary run scorers in a 15-over run dash.
BARNSTAPLE & Pilton crushed Budleigh Salterton by eight wickets to clinch promotion from the Tolchards DCL D Division East.
Barum can’t finish any lower than second in the table and can still go up as champs. To do that they must beat relegated Braunton 2nd II this Saturday and hope leaders Alphington & Countess Wear slip up against Culmstock.
Wickets were shared five bowlers – Justin Saker had three, George Elnaugh two – as Budleigh were held to 154 for nine. Marc Troman made 39.
Saker (63) and Tom Poole (58no) opened with 107 for B&P, which made the outcome a formality.
ROSS Acton and Matt Holmes shared in a 72-run partnership that pointed Bradninch & Kentisbeare 2nd XI towards a four-wicket D East win over Topsham St James.
The Shells had Matt Williams (40) and Jacob Taylor (53) largely to thank for reaching 200 all out. Twenty-eight wides helped. Acton (4-35) and James Mills (3-36) gave B&K control with the ball.
Holmes, in at 86 for three after Jared Coppin (26) departed, anchored one end for 36 while Richie Norman (33), and man-of-the-match Acton (48) made game-winning progress at the other.
CULMSTOCK bounced back from their defeat by North Devon 2nd XI with a 72-run win over relegated Braunton 2nd XI.
Zac Salter (69) and Joe Gillett (42) opened up for Culmstock with 86 and Luke Dopson’s 34 in even time helped them to 233 for nine. Andy Jones took three for 29 for Braunton.
Steve Hunt made 57 batting at five for Braunton, but Jason Raynor (27) and Joe Mullens were the only other batters above 20.
The Bell brothers – Marco (3-22) and Lucas (2-10) – helped hasten Braunton from 155 for six to 161 all out.
NEIL Bettiss followed his century against Culmstock with 63 more runs in North Devon 2nd XI’s five-wicket win over Whimple.
Noah Tovell (4-33) led the bowling effort for North Devon, who bowled out Whimple for 139. Spencer Wilcock (37) and Nathan Kidd (22) were Whimple’s only significant run makers.
Bettis laid the foundations for North Devon’s pursuit, which was finished off by Regina Lilii with 30 not out.
