BOVEY Tracey 2nd XI tumbled to a 98-run defeat at Seaton that leaves them in the B Division bottom two for another week.

The only consolation for skipper Dan Green is that Braunton and Clyst St George, the two teams directly above them, both lost as well.

A consistent effort from Seaton’s batters, led by Jack Dormer with a patient 58, took them to an impressive 271 for nine. He shared a stand of 74 with Damian Baxter (37). Ben Morgan (41) and Sam Goodier (31) kept the runs coming as the ball went soft.

Bovey left armer Sam Veal (3-46) combined wicket-taking and economy effectively.

A solid start took Bovey to 87 for one – Sam Harvey (21), Jamie Bishop (31), Ryan Jones (21) responsible – but a mini stumble to 88 for four delayed their progress. 

Clubbed

At 116 for seven after a battering from Kai Croft (5-45) an early finish loomed, but a belligerent 42 by Green delayed the inevitable. He clubbed seven fours and two sixes from 17 balls faced. Ben Fisher tidied up the loose ends with two for 19 as Bovey were dismissed for 173.

“Multiple individuals stepping-up is always pleasing, but it was particularly nice to see Kai Croft get his first Seaton CC five-wicket haul.

“Hopefully we can find some consistency now ahead of a tough game against Barton.”
