SEATON captain Tim Doulton is aiming to make the club’s latest stay in the Tolchards DCL B Division a platform for greater things.
Promotion as C East champs last season, at the end of a two-way tussle with Heathcoat 2nd XI, took Seaton back where they were for one season in 2023.
Seaton seldom dwell long in any of the league’s divisions. Since finishing bottom of the Premier Division back in 2005, they have either been relegated or promoted 10 times!
Four summers – 2008-2011 inclusive – in the pre-regionalised C Division is Seaton’s longest stay anywhere.
Doulton wants his Seaton side to stabilise in the B Division with a view to climbing back up the league ladder.
“Going into the B Division means we want to stay ambitious and hungry to win,” said Doulton.
“Winning promotion last year felt like a step back to where Seaton should be after a difficult few years. We thoroughly believe we can challenge anyone in the B Division.
Foundation
“Similarly to last season, we have full belief in the full potential of what our younger players can produce and are excited to see where this team can develop this upcoming season and onwards. We are determined to build on this foundation.”
Kai Croft, Seaton’s overseas player in 2025, is back for a second spell fresh from a productive season playing Second Grade cricket for Manly Warringha in Sydney. He made more than 600 runs with a best of 112 against Sydney University.
New signings set to feature once the season gets started include Ben Fisher from Sidmouth and Louis Adey ex-of Exmouth.
“Ben is an exciting young spinner who will also provide an important role in the middle overs,” said Doulton.
“Louis is a wicketkeeper-bat, who brings a lot of power to our batting line-up.”
One player who won’t feature in the opening rounds is top-order batter Matt Hewer, who had a hip operation in November.
“I won’t be playing first team for a while,” said Hewer.
