Tolchards Devon Women’s League T20 Plate Final
Hatherleigh v Taunton Deane 2s
Exeter CC – Sunday 13 September, 14:00
Hatherleigh and Taunton Deane 2s will bring the Tolchards T20 Plate competition to a close on Sunday when they meet in the final at Exeter CC.
Both sides topped their respective groups before coming through contrasting semi-finals to book their places in the showpiece.
Hatherleigh finished top of Group A on 12 points, three clear of Plympton, while Taunton Deane came through Group C with a perfect record, winning all four of their matches to finish on 12 points and six clear of Bradninch & Kentisbeare.
Hatherleigh’s semi-final victory over Bovey Tracey was built around an excellent all-round performance from Chloe Dennis.
Dennis made 52 from 58 balls, hitting six fours, as Hatherleigh posted 129-4 from their 20 overs. Chloe Rose gave the innings an early push with 28 from 26 balls, while Olivia Cooper added 17.
Bovey were kept to 105-6 in reply, despite an unbeaten 37 from Emily Martin. Dennis followed her half-century with 2-23 from four overs, while Chloe Rose, Amalie Brock, Jessica Dennis and Jess Rose all picked up a wicket as Hatherleigh completed a 24-run victory.
Taunton Deane’s semi-final against Clyst St George was a very different affair.
Clyst made 105-5 from their 20 overs, with Alyssia Hayes carrying her bat for an unbeaten 48. Amy Farr and Georgia Adams claimed two wickets apiece for Taunton, while Beatrice How also struck.
The chase was then dominated by Pippa Stephens.
Stephens hit 55 from 49 balls, including ten fours, and shared a substantial opening stand with Niamh Wait, who finished unbeaten on 26.
By the time Stephens was dismissed with the score on 96, the contest was virtually settled. Charlotte Berry needed only three deliveries to finish things off, making an unbeaten 10 as Taunton reached 106-1 in just 12.4 overs to win by nine wickets.
The two semi-finals highlighted slightly different strengths heading into Sunday’s final. Hatherleigh had to build a competitive total and then defend it against a strong Bovey side, with Dennis making an impact in both innings. Taunton, meanwhile, kept Clyst within reach before their top order made light work of the chase, with Stephens leading the way and Farr, Adams and How all contributing with the ball.
It leaves two strong and competitive sides competing for the Tolchards T20 Plate.
