The final Tolchards Devon Women’s League T20 Plate Group B fixture takes centre stage tonight as Whimple host Clyst St George, with the final semi-final place still up for grabs.

The hosts head into the contest knowing their fate is entirely in their own hands. Victory will guarantee Whimple a place in the last four, despite seeing their unbeaten run ended by Exmouth 2nd XI in their previous outing. They will be eager to put that disappointment behind them and return to the form that saw them comfortably overcome Clyst St George when the sides first met back in May.

Clyst St George, however, have refused to let their campaign fade away. After that defeat to Whimple, they bounced back impressively by defeating Exmouth last month to keep their qualification hopes alive and ensure the final group game carries genuine significance. The visitors know only a victory will keep their season alive, but even that may not be enough. It is likely they will need to win by a good margin to overhaul both Whimple and Exmouth on net run rate and snatch the group’s remaining semi-final berth.

With a semi-final place on the line, there is plenty at stake for both sides. Whimple know a win is all they need to book their place in the last four, while Clyst St George not only have to win but are also likely to need a convincing margin of victory to swing net run rate in their favour.

It all points towards a fascinating evening of T20 cricket, with knockout qualification, local pride and a place in the semi-finals on the line as Group B reaches its dramatic conclusion.
