SHOBROOKE Park defeated lowly Topsham St James by two wickets to stay second in the D East table, but only after a struggle.

Topsham made 212 for seven in their 45 overs, which Shobrooke finally overhauled in the last over.

When Shobrooke were 154 for eight with seven overs to go, it appeared a second successive defeat was on the cards. Jonty Brett and Ben Wonnacott were the men of the moment who turned things round for Shobrooke.Topsham St James batter Jacob Taylor gives it a whack against Shobrooke Park

Declan Wardell, run out for 93, took TSJ to 153 for three, aided and abetted by Ross Treleaven (21) and Matt Williams. Jacob Taylor (39) put bat to ball in the later overs before he was caught on the boundary going for a third six.

Chris Simpson (3-36) was Shobrooke’s most successful bowler. Howell Brandwood (0-22) bowled nine tidy overs.

Simpson’s patient 37 at the top of the order helped Shobrooke to 91 for four in reply. Fergus Campey (29) chipped in.

Treleaven (5-26) had progressive bowling figures of four for 17 at one stage as Shobrooke found the going difficult. His victims included Greg Cole (43).
