TAVISTOCK have the toughest start possible to life back in the Premier Division as they pay a visit to back-to-back champions Bradninch & Kentisbeare.

It’s been 20 years since Tavistock last featured in the top division of the Tolchards DCL, and a lot has changed since then. Draws have gone, bowling restrictions have been tightened and coloured kit is de-rigueurLast man standing: Tavistock's Dave Manning

One thing that hasn’t changed is Dave Manning’s name on the Tavistock team-sheet. He is the only survivor of the last Tavvy side in the Premier Division.

The last time Tavvy passed this way they went up and went straight back down. Sean Cleave, the captain, intends avoiding the same fate.

“Our aspirations for the season are straightforward: we want to be competitive and accumulate enough points to secure our place in the division,” said Cleave

“We’re under no illusions about the challenges ahead, Premier cricket is demanding, and opening the campaign against the 2025 champions will be a true test.

Excitement

“That said, there’s a real sense of excitement throughout the squad and the club as we look ahead to the season.”

Former Pakistan under-19 player Ahmad Hassan should add firepower to Tavistock’s  bowling attack as well as stability at the top of the order.

Devon batter Elliot Hamilton, trailed by numerous clubs after leaving Plympton and ex-Devon spinner Matt Petherbridge are among other new faces.

“Elliot's quality and experience have already made a strong impression,” said Cleave.

“Matt has been outstanding in pre-season; I’m looking forward to seeing what he can deliver when it matters.”

Finally, we’re eager to welcome Navy cricketer Duncan Fraser back into the fold once he returns from deployment at sea."
