It was another action-packed weekend in the Tolchards Devon Women’s Cricket League, with multiple centuries and crucial victories across all three divisions. Batters continued to dominate in the warm conditions, with several teams posting imposing totals, while bowlers produced key spells to keep the title races and promotion battles finely balanced.

Division One

Cornwood vs Exeter

Cornwood welcomed Exeter as they searched for their first win of the season. After winning the toss, the hosts elected to field first, but Exeter’s batters continued their fine form. Fresh from her double century the previous weekend, captain Elle Golsworthy produced another outstanding innings, finishing unbeaten on 154 from 131 balls. Georgia Read provided excellent support with an unbeaten 63 as Exeter posted an imposing 295/2 from their allotted overs.

Cornwood’s reply was led by Gemma Lancaster, who battled hard for 73 and kept her side in the contest. However, with wickets falling regularly around her, the hosts were unable to build the partnerships needed to threaten Exeter’s total. Katie Donovan was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets, while Lucy Vosper claimed three, as Exeter secured another convincing victory to move level on points with North Devon at the top of the Division One table.

Golsworthy reflected on the game, “It was great to get a 20 point team win again and move to joint top of the league.  We set another big total after we were put into bat first. Georgia (63*) and I had a strong partnership of 216* to see out the 40 overs. I was pleased to follow up last week with another big score this week 154*.

The score gave our bowlers plenty to play with but some stubborn batting from Cornwood meant we had to be really patient before Katie and Lucy cleared up. Cornwood hung in there but we finally got them all out with the last ball of the match to secure the 20 point win.  We are looking forward to welcoming North Devon next for a top of the table clash!”

Exmouth vs North Devon

North Devon travelled to Exmouth, with the hosts still searching for their first Division One victory of the season. After winning the toss, North Devon elected to bat first and made a solid start through opener Regina Lilii, who scored 70 before becoming one of Jasmyne Watson’s five victims. Rose Ball (18), Lauren Bowden (24) and a significant contribution of 75 extras helped North Devon recover from regular wickets to post 224/8 from their allotted overs.

North Devon then made early inroads with the ball, as Megan Zieleniewicz and Issie Ollis struck to put Exmouth under immediate pressure. Despite the steady fall of wickets, Holly Evans produced a determined unbeaten 64 to keep the hosts in the contest. However, with little support from the other end, Exmouth were eventually bowled out for 168. The victory keeps North Devon level on points with Exeter at the top of the Division One table ahead of their eagerly anticipated meeting next weekend.

 Paignton vs Plymouth

Paignton welcomed Plymouth for a high-scoring Division One encounter, with the visitors winning the toss and electing to bat first. Plymouth made the perfect start as openers Melissa Banks and Darcey Boote shared a superb 231-run partnership. Banks struck 107, while Boote celebrated her maiden century with a magnificent 133. Katie Harman eventually broke the stand by dismissing both openers, but valuable late contributions from Molly Searle (27) and Sophie Brandom (18*) lifted Plymouth to an imposing 305/3 from their allotted overs.

Paignton’s reply began shakily with the loss of a few early wickets, but Lauren Perkin (47) and Ella Gill, who produced another outstanding century with 109, rebuilt the innings with a partnership of 142 to give the hosts hope. Despite their efforts, Plymouth's bowlers maintained control during the closing stages, applying consistent pressure to restrict Paignton's scoring. The hosts eventually finished 34 runs short, with Plymouth looking back in form.

Division Two

Plympton vs Hatherleigh

Hatherleigh travelled to Plympton, losing the toss and being asked to bat first. The visitors laid the perfect foundation through an outstanding opening partnership of 154 between Chloe Rose (34) and Chloe Dennis, who fell just short of a century with a superb 96. Although Hatherleigh lost a few quick wickets after the opening stand was broken, India Spears (16*) and Olivia Cooper (20*) ensured the innings finished strongly on 219/4 from their allotted overs.

Plympton's reply got off to a difficult start as Olivia Cooper struck twice with the new ball. However, Thailand international Nannapat Khoncharoenkai produced a magnificent unbeaten 135 from just 91 deliveries to keep the hosts in the contest. Despite her outstanding innings, Plympton were unable to keep up with the required run rate and finished 16 runs short, a result that keeps Hatherleigh at the top of the Division Two table.

Captain Jess Rose reflected on their win, “So pleased with our win on the weekend vs Plympton. It was nice to have such a competitive game and come out on top. Special mention to Chloe Dennis for her 96.”

Division Three

Bovey Tracey vs Chagford

After losing the toss and being put into bat, Bovey Tracey made full use of the excellent batting conditions, posting an imposing 318/2 from their 30 overs.

Amelie Webber provided the perfect platform with a fluent 37 from 32 balls before becoming the first wicket to fall with the score on 99. From there, Olive McCauley and Emily Martin took complete control of the innings. McCauley struck a superb unbeaten 121 from 93 deliveries, including 20 fours, while Martin finished unbeaten on 95 from just 67 balls, hitting 18 boundaries at a strike rate of over 140. Their unbroken partnership dominated the second half of the innings and propelled Bovey Tracey to a commanding total.

Chagford responded positively, with openers Lily Finlay (43) and Lottie Hilton (30) putting together a solid opening partnership to give the chase a strong foundation. Mel Holyoak added a valuable 25, but with wickets falling regularly around her, the hosts were unable to build the sustained partnerships needed to challenge Bovey Tracey’s total. Lynsey Sell, Amelie Webber and Isabelle Bradley each claimed two wickets as Bovey wrapped up a convincing victory. The win puts Bovey second in the table, 1 point behind Ottery with a game in hand.

Captain Emily Martin reflected on the game, “It was a true team performance from Bovey Tracey, with major contributions from McCauley and Martin with the bat and a strong all-round effort in the field to secure an emphatic 144-run victory.

Bovey Tracey Women’s would like to thank Chagford Women’s for an enjoyable and competitive fixture played in excellent spirit and wish them well for the remainder of the season.”

Holsworthy vs Ottery St Mary

Ottery St Mary continued their Division Three title charge in a dominant victory against Holsworthy. The league leaders won the toss, elected to bat and made 183-6 with E Bowring (62) and D Jones (42) batting well to set an imposing total. Holsworthy chased valiantly, but the strength of Ottery St Mary’s bowling attack prevailed, led by the excellent A Sullivan (3/4). Ultimately, Holsworthy ended their chase 90 runs short with Ottery St Mary recording an impressive away win to continue their excellent season.

Bradninch & Kentisbeare vs Exmouth 2nds

Elsewhere in Division Three, a midtable clash saw Bradninch & Kentisbeare host Exmouth. The away side were sent into bat first and set Bradninch & Kentisbeare a target of 146-7 with a well-made half-century for opener Sarah Strode (52) and starts from Tory Bloom (34) and Anna Higgins (23) in the middle order.

For Bradninch & Kentisbeare, Yvonne Jackson (3/30) and Colette Bamber (2/30) both impressed with the ball.  The visitors lost two wickets early, found themselves 16/2 after 8 overs, but an impressive 65-run partnership between Fi Moran (67*) and Meg Acton (35) steadied the ship, with opener Fi Moran batting all 29.4 overs, showing excellent composure leading an impressive chase to win the game for Bradninch & Kentisbeare with 2 balls remaining.
