Despite rain arriving on Saturday, fixtures across Division One, Division Two, Division Three, the T20 Plate and the T20 Eight-a-Side League went ahead as planned. Here's how the teams got on over the weekend.
Division One
Cornwood welcomed North Devon for their latest Division One fixture, with the hosts winning the toss and electing to field first. North Devon recovered well after the early loss of Issie Ollis for 8, with Megan Snape (32), Rose Ball (79), and Lauren Bowden (42) all making significant contributions. Their efforts helped the visitors post a competitive 212/6.
In reply, Cornwood found it difficult to build meaningful partnerships. Captain Helly Simpson battled hard for her side, carrying her bat for 39 runs from 113 deliveries, but with wickets falling regularly around her, the hosts were eventually bowled out for 140. The 72-run victory moves North Devon up to second place in the Division One standings.
Meanwhile, league leaders Exeter hosted Paignton after winning the toss and choosing to bat first. Despite the early loss of Jessica Breban, Exeter built a strong platform through Elle Golsworthy (57) and Georgia Golsworthy (32), whose 103-run partnership put the hosts in control. Contributions from Georgia Read (18) and Iris Woodward (10) helped Exeter reach 159/8.
Paignton's reply got off to a positive start and, despite losing a few early wickets, they continued to score freely throughout the chase. Ellie Bishop led the way with an excellent 67, while Sophie Kirkup (24) and Ellie Knight (23*) provided valuable support. The visitors reached their target in the 38th over to secure an important victory. Despite the defeat, Exeter remain top of the table, holding a three-point advantage at the summit.
Elsewhere, Plymouth hosted Exmouth, with the visitors winning the toss and electing to bat first. The decision failed to pay off as Plymouth’s bowlers dominated from the outset, dismissing Exmouth for just 40. Melissa Banks was the standout performer, claiming an impressive five-wicket haul.
Plymouth then made light work of the chase. Although Exmouth managed to remove Darcey Boote for 11, Iona Pennington (24*) guided the hosts towards their target as Plymouth wrapped up victory in just eight overs, further strengthening their position in the top half of the table.
Division Two
In Division Two, Exeter 2nd XI conceded their fixture against Clyst St George, meaning Hatherleigh versus Plympton was the only match to take place over the weekend.
Plympton won the toss and elected to bat first, but the decision proved costly as Hatherleigh’s bowlers dominated from the outset. Evie Hampton top-scored with 13, but regular wickets prevented the visitors from building any momentum. Chloe Dennis and Keira Spinney shared five wickets between them as Plympton were bowled out for just 39.
Hatherleigh’s chase got off to an unexpected start as Plympton struck twice in the opening over, dismissing both Mia Spears and Rebekah Dennis to leave the hosts on 0-2. However, Chloe Dennis (20*) and Olivia Cooper (15*) quickly settled any nerves, guiding Hatherleigh to victory in the fifth over and securing another valuable win to take them top of the table.
Division Three
Holsworthy hosted Chagford and, after winning the toss, elected to field first. Chagford made a solid start with several batters making useful contributions at the top of the order. M Goodhand scored 19, L Finlay added 32, and R Barlow-Endacott chipped in with 12 as the visitors built their innings. Holsworthy fought back well through Jodie Gardener, who tore through the lower order to finish with an impressive four-wicket haul.
In reply, Holsworthy found runs difficult to come by against a disciplined Chagford bowling attack. E Clarke top-scored with 15, but regular wickets prevented the hosts from building any meaningful partnerships. B Barlow-Endacott starred with the ball, claiming four wickets to help Chagford secure a comfortable victory and valuable points on the road.
Elsewhere in Division Three, Ottery St Mary hosted Bradninch & Kentisbeare in a closely contested encounter. After winning the toss, Bradninch & Kentisbeare elected to field first and quickly put the hosts under pressure. Yvonne Jackson was the standout performer with the ball, producing a remarkable spell to claim six wickets. Despite the regular breakthroughs, Darcey Jones (22) and A. Fripp (25) provided valuable resistance, helping Ottery recover to post 102/9 from their allotted overs.
In reply, Bradninch & Kentisbeare found scoring difficult against a disciplined Ottery bowling attack. Once again, Yvonne Jackson led from the front, anchoring the innings with a determined 29 not out from 75 deliveries to keep her side in contention. However, with wickets falling around her and little support from the rest of the batting line-up, Bradninch & Kentisbeare fell agonisingly short, finishing just five runs behind the target as Ottery secured a hard-fought victory.
T20 8 A Side Group A
Exmouth 4th XI welcomed Bovey Tracey 2nd XI and, after losing the toss, were put into bat first. The hosts produced a solid total thanks to a number of useful contributions throughout the order. S Strode top-scored with 22, while F Sampson added 17 and R Dance remained unbeaten on 12 as Exmouth finished on 103/5 from their allotted overs.
In reply, Bovey Tracey never looked troubled by the target. The visitors lost just one wicket, with L Sell dismissed for 16, but otherwise controlled the chase from start to finish. E Lockett led the way with an unbeaten 40, while A Cowper finished 10 not out as Bovey reached their target in just 13 overs to secure a comfortable victory.
On Monday evening, Clyst St George hosted Exmouth 3rd XI and, after losing the toss, were put into bat first. The hosts made a blistering start thanks to Daisy Bishop and Iona Murrin, who both reached half-centuries before retiring. Their excellent opening stand laid the foundations for a commanding total, while Sophia Esson (10*) and Violet Stephens (7*) added valuable runs late in the innings to help Clyst St George finish on 170/1.
Exmouth began their chase positively, with Adele Fulner (18) and Rachel Dance (10) providing a solid start. However, once both batters were dismissed by Sophia Esson and Iona Murrin, the visitors found it difficult to maintain momentum against a disciplined Clyst St George bowling attack. Regular wickets and tight bowling restricted the scoring rate, with Exmouth eventually finishing 103 runs short of their target.
T20 Plate Group C
Cullompton made history this weekend as they played their first-ever hard-ball fixture, travelling to Taunton Deane in the T20 Plate. Winning the toss, the visitors elected to field first and were immediately tested by a strong Taunton Deane batting performance.
The hosts made an excellent start, with their opening pair putting on 73 runs. G. Kibble led the way with a quickfire 58, while I. Dunne (24*) and P. Stephens (20) helped maintain the momentum as Taunton Deane posted a competitive total. Despite the pressure, Cullompton celebrated a landmark moment when J. Ingersent claimed the club's first-ever wicket in a women’s hard-ball XI match.
In reply, Cullompton found it difficult to gain momentum against a disciplined Taunton Deane bowling attack. K. Bowles-Hawkins top-scored with 18, but the visitors were unable to keep up with the required rate and eventually finished 53 runs short of their target.
Despite the defeat, it was a proud day for the club. Reflecting on the occasion, Cullompton said on Facebook: “This team has come so far with a mix of players, some who have never played hardball, some who have only ever played Super 8s and our girls’ youth section. Unfortunately we didn't get the win but they never looked out of place once against a very established Taunton Deane side!”
