Devon Women made it two bonus-point wins from their opening two Metro Bank One Day Cup fixtures with a convincing 8-wicket win over Buckinghamshire at The Holt on Sunday.

Bucks won the toss and elected to bat. Molly Carter (34) and Afra Rose Mohamed (21) started the game firmly, making 37 off the first 7 overs, but Abbie Lockett (2-16) found the breakthrough in the eighth over with her first delivery, Mohamed caught behind. The visitors never gained momentum afterwards, making just over 3.5 runs an over for the remainder of the innings, as Steph Hutchins (2-14), Regina Lilii (2-6) and Maddie Russell (2-34) took regular wickets; Buckinghamshire setting Devon a target of 154.

You could be forgiven for thinking Devon's would be less than straightforward when Jemima Vereker was dismissed lbw in the first over, but Elle Golsworthy (86*) and Ellie Bishop's (49) steady partnership of 152 calmly erased the target. Lilii (4*) joined Golsworthy at the crease to score the winning runs off her only ball, seeing Devon home at 157/2 in just 26.3 overs.

Lauren Rowles's Post-Match Thoughts

"Another excellent win for the women this weekend. The team put in a fantastic all-round performance, working hard both in the field and with the ball in batter-friendly conditions to bowl Buckinghamshire out for 153.

"A special mention goes to Regina Lilii, who had an outstanding game, taking three catches, effecting a run out, and finishing with superb figures of 2-6.

"With the bat, it was a pleasure to watch Golsworthy and Bishop build a match-winning partnership of 152. Both innings were characterised by composure, maturity, and excellent decision-making, as they guided the team to victory with controlled, low-risk cricket. A brilliant team performance from start to finish."

Abbie Lockett's Post-Match Thoughts

"Sunday's win was another strong result for us and a reflection of a solid team performance. It's been really encouraging to see us improve week by week, especially in the field where we've raised our standards.

"We're looking forward to the rest of the season and aiming to keep building on our improvements."
