PLYMSTOCK completed back-to-back 10 wickets wins over Barton then Chagford to carry off the Corinthian Cup on finals day at Bovey Tracey.

First under the cosh in the Ivor Dewdney-sponsored cup competition were Barton, who were bowled out for a paltry 54. A five-wicket spell from left-arm seamer Adam Frost put the skids under Barton.

Frost claimed five for 10 from his four overs – one of the that T20 rarity a maiden – and there were three wickets for Rob Cunningham (3-7) in the 13.4 overs it took Plymstock to dismantle the Torquay side.

Plymstock openers Josh Sumner (35no) and Chris Davies (23no) used just 5.2 overs knocking off the runs.

Waiting for Plymstock in the final were surprise package Chagford (171-5), who overcame a two-division league differential to knock out Seaton (167-5) by five wickets in the morning semi-final.

The final proved another one-sided affair once Chagford were bowled out for 73 by Plymstock’s cup-winning captain Tom Mitch (3-12), aided and abetted by Billy Gibson and Cunningham with two wickets each.

Harry Senior hit an entertaining 24 at the top of the order for Chagford before, predictably, he hit the bowling in the air once too often and was well caught by Archie Hall. Next best were a pair of 11s for Lucas Pedrochi and Stuart Lipo.

Sumner (39no) and Davies (18no) were detained for 8.2 overs on the way to lifting the cup. Sumner settled it by hoisting Lipo for six over long-on.

Mitch, the cup-lifting captain, said finals day went better than he could have dreamed.

Mitch added: “Frosty’s five-fer was top tier of two excellent bowling performances by us.

“To win both games by 10 wickets was a dream. Watching Chris and Josh see us home in both times was great to see.”

It was Plymstock’s first win in the Corinthian Cup final since 2011.
