BARTON 2nd XI’s golden-oldie Dave Cadwallader claimed a six-wicket haul that helped send Kenn spinning to a five-wicket defeat.
Cadwallader, 62 and now in his fourth decade as a Barton cricketer, took six wickets for 11 runs as Kenn were hustled out for just 109.
Take away scores of 25 from Oliver Walter, 23 by Martin Swannell and 21 for James Gosling and there wasn’t much from the rest.
Adam Last (40) and Harry Shelton (28) steered Barton to a comfortable win, despite occasional interruptions from Kenn’s Graham Stone (3-25).
HATHERLEIGH 2nd XI ultimately overwhelmed Babbacombe by 138 runs in the top-against bottom clash in the D Division West.
It seemed a shock could be on the cards when Hatherleigh were wobbling at 84 for six with Greg Solkin (27) and Niall Leahy (22) posting the only scores of note.
Skipper Danny Forrester (67) and Luke Westacott (38) put on 68 for the seventh wicket towards a final total of 198 all out.
Best of the bowling by Babbacombe came from Brian Gomes (2-16) and Ben Passmore (2-23).
Babbacombe’s batting collapsed in a heap from 43 for three to 54 for five then 59 for six, seven, eight and nine en-route to 60 all out. Aidan Lightowlers’ 24 was as good as it got. Five batters did not manage a run between them.
Charlie Bingham (4-28) softened them up; Westacott (3-0) took three wickets in five balls and Will Edwards (2-1) performed the last rites.
SAF Johar claimed four wickets, and there were three more for Muhammad Ali, as Plymouth Civil Service & Roborough cruised to a 93-run win over Torquay & Kingskerswell 2nd XI.
The Seasiders were set 216 to win in a full 45-over game – and were bowled out for just 122.
Victory hoisted Civil up to fifth in the table at the expense of inactive Ivybridge 2nd XI.
Civil’s all-out total of 215 was hung on a stand of 115 between Malik Wasim and Ritesh Dubey.
Wasim went first for 86, but Dubey carried on for a patient 66 in a running total of 182 for six.
Vivek Kulkarni (3.13) and Towkir Chowdhury (2.86) were T&K’s most miserly bowlers. Ant Nadar (4-43) and Bobby Western (3-29 were the most successful.
The writing was on the wall for Torquay & Kingskerswell at 53 for five with Kiwi Tobias Delahunty (21) among the departed. Dubey (2-22) had early wickets.
Ryan Hanaur (30) put up a fight, but once he was sixth out on 84 wickets tumbled to Johar (4-29) and Ali (3-29).
Last pair Chowdhurry (15no) and Abu Bakar (12) detained Civil 11 overs longer than planned in the process of earning T&K a third batting bonus point.
PLYMOUTH 2nd XI went down by 28 runs to promotion-chasing Chagford.
Richard Hopwood’s run-laden summer continued with a top score of 101 in Chagford’s 45-over score of 206 for six.
Opener Hopwood has batted four times for Chagford in league matches this season, scoring two tons and two half-centuries. With a couple of not-outs in the stats, he is averaging 195!
Hopwood put on 81 with Will Paterson (23) for the third wicket. Paddy Poustie chipped in with 22.
Pick of the Plymouth bowlers were Aziz Rahmanzai (2-31) and Sam Knapman (2-38).
Pete Evans (44) and James Webb (33) gave Plymouth a steady start, only for Hopwood (3-42) to slow things down.
Tom Hughes (40) tried to revive the chase, but wickets fell steadily at the other end until he was the last man out.
Martin Herrington (4-24) got into the bottom half of the order as Plymouth fell short on 178 all out.
THE game between Ivybridge 2nd XI and Yelverton at Filham Park was called-off without a ball bowled.
