Shobrooke Park 2nd XI beat Exwick 2nd XI by seven wickets in the G Division East. Shobrooke are now up to fifth place having staved off any lingering relegation worries with another convincing win against Exwick.

The game amazingly started on time and the Park took to the field having won the toss with the frugal Michael Barlow back in the fold and he bowled very well again opening the bowling and going for only nine off his eight, somehow wicketless overs.

Four of Exwick’ top five did not make double figures, their top scorer (wicketkeeper) Adam Harding only making 27 from number six, 25 extras being their next top score.

Dan Puddefoot picked up 3-37, the reliable seamer David Manning 2-27 and sixth bowler Stephen Grinney had 27 runs off his seven overs for 2 wickets. The end of the 40 overs saw Exwick on 114-9.

Alfie Poole and Andrew Sharp opened up the response for the home side but both perished soon, one each to Exwick’s opening bowlers. Somerset CCC groundsman Kevin Pitts batted very sensibly and anchored the innings to end on 27 not out. Ben Wonnacott, all mullet and gusto, plundered 44 before allowing Bruce Kerry, more gusto and less mullet to enter the fray to smash 28 not out from 20 balls to see the home side comfortably home with 19 points for their efforts. Exwick trying five bowlers, but only the first three managed a wicket apiece, Pranjal Hazari the pick

The Shobrooke 2nd XI have the unenviable final fixture of being away to Filleigh on Saturday, they won the league weeks back and remain unbeaten.

Meanwhile the bottom two sides face each other on the final weekend, Exwick host Heatcoat 4th XI (formerly Sampford Peverell 2nd XI) who are also already relegated into the bottom tier of Devon cricket for next summer.
