TORQUAY remain tucked in behind the A Division top three after defeating Seaton by 39 runs in a low-scoring affair.
Seaton, already resigned to relegation after losing 11 games on the spin, might have felt they were on course for a first league win of the season after skittling Torquay for 118.
There were three wickets each for Seaton bowlers Joe Berry (3-20) and Tim Doulton (3-23) and two more for Adam Bilston (2-39).
Jiniv Joshi top scored with 45 for Torquay. No one else made more than Bobby Western with 16.
Seaton got to 60 for two in reply with Bilston making 34 of them. Then it all went wrong for the Court Lane side.
Five wickets tumbled for just six runs scored with Bilston (35) among the casualties.
Most of the damage was done by spinner Chris Kelmere, who took three wickets in four balls as the collapse gathered pace.
Kelmere finished with four for 10 and Harry Passenger spun out four more for nine runs conceded as Seaton crumbled to 79 all out.
Seaton have become annealed to losing this season – 11 previous defeats can do that to a team – but this was one loss that was tough to take.
“The fact that we were disappointed after the game shows that we are improving,” said opener Matt Hewer.
“Although we bowled and fielded really well, our fragile batting was yet again exposed.
“We are just happy to have given Torquay a game and they had to work hard to beat us.”
