Harry Everett rounds up the action from the Tolchards Devon Women's Cricket League on Sunday, June 30.
Megan Hayward provided one of the personal performances of the week as she hit 103 from 79 balls opening the batting for Cornwood at Oak Park against Plympton. It really was a two-player batting card as Shini Al Khalid’s 34 was the only other bat making double figures. 3-42 from Bella Greenwood the bowling standout as the Plympton openers (Charlotte Greenwood contributing 2-34) took five wickets between them.
In reply skipper Greenwood scored 28, and 40s from Darcey Boote and ‘keeper Violet Bell kept the chase going, but once they were out, Immy Prickett was left 28* with not enough time left in the game. 170-5 they finished, losing by 22 runs.
The closest game of the week saw Paignton edge out Hatherleigh by four runs.
Put in to bat, Paignton’s opener Katie Harman batted through for 91*, she was dropped a couple of times which Hatherleigh seriously rued, but she was the backbone to set up the 155 scored with no other Paignton bat reaching 20. Eloise Maxa’s right-arm seamers took 3-20 off seven overs, but 23 Hatherleigh extras ended up as Paignton’s second top score.
Maxa was run out for 37 in the reply and Lily Sargent was bowled by Harman for 40, the player of the match award clearly Harman’s, adding 3-23 to seal the close-fought win too.
A great effort from all 22 players in a cracking match nearly as close as Gloucestershire and Glamorgan’s remarkable fourth-day tie on Wednesday!
Another personal hundred was scored for Exeter, by Grace Golsworthy, 108 off 112. Roxy Buckley contributed 48 in an 89-run opening stand that set the away side up. 238 was a decent if not massive score on the batting paradise of Instow’s pitch.
But Milly Squire’s 56 did not have the support it needed as Exeter’s total did prove enough, North Devon all out for 145 in 31 overs to lose by 93 runs. 3-27 from Lily Halliday the Exeter bowling stand-out.
Taunton Deane 2s marched on atop Division Two comfortably beating even those directly below them, Bovey Tracey in the clash of the top two at Bovey on sunday. Harriet Kelly and Millie Lusk both notched 50s on route to Deane’s 232-7 off 35 overs.
Home bowler Lily Colwill picked up two wickets but noone reached 20 in Bovey’s reply with the bat. Amelie Keal had 4-9 and Charlotte Berry 3-15 to seal another Deane win, they are yet to lose in this year’s competition.
The only other carded Div Two match saw Exeter 2s concede, giving Clyst St George the points without taking onto the field.
