TOPSHAM St James CC are celebrating their 150th anniversary on Sunday (June 22) with a family fun day and match against a Lord’s Taverners’ team captained by former Somerset and England legend Andy Caddick. 

The club, which started its existence as St James CC , at what is now the home of Exeter City FC, has been based in Topsham since the late 1980s. Prior to then they played on a ground in the long-closed Digby Mental Hospital

The match, which will be from 1.30pm, will see a Topsham team (made up of current and former players) contest a 30-over match against a Lord’s Taverners team including Caddick and special guests. 

There will be plenty of other activities including a bouncy castle, ice creams, softball cricket for children – as well as food and drink on sale. The fun day is aimed at raising money for the cricketing charity the Lord’s Taverners, which provide innovative and inclusive cricket programmes to empower young people who have disabilities or are from disadvantaged communities. Matt Williams – Topsham SJ's chairman, who is looking forward to welcoming friends of the club to the 150th anniversary celebrations

Matthew Williams, chair of Topsham St. James CC, said: “It is going to be an amazing celebration of cricket, our club and our community. 

"In our 150th year we wanted to give back something to the game we love, and the Lord’s Taverners were the obvious choice. 

“We’re looking forward to welcoming as many people as possible on Sunday, and anything anyone can do to keep the rain away will be much appreciated!”
