IT’S Super Sunday at Sandford where this year’s Devon Twenty20 competition will reach a sizzling conclusion.
The action-packed three-game schedule gets under way at 10am when Bridestowe taken on Sidmouth in the first semi-final.
Sidmouth were hammered by eventual champions Exmouth at the same stage of last season’s competition, which should motivate them to pull it out of the hat this time.
Bridestowe, who play in the DCL A Division, will go into the semi-final as underdogs. Having disposed of Premier sides Sandford and Heathcoat to reach the last four, Sidmouth will be well aware the underdogs can have a nasty bite.
Exmouth, defending the title they won this time last year when they defeated Bovey Tracey, are up against Cornwood in their semi-final (1pm).
Wins over Exeter and Tavistock were Cornwood’s pathway to the final. Exmouth had a bye in the first round, which led to a high-scoring encounter with Paignton in the last eight.
Devon League records are notoriously inaccurate – and non-existent in places – which makes claiming one a risky business.
Exmouth’s team total of 242 for four against Paignton is believed to be a competition record – in which opener Louis Morison thwacked a 52-ball ton – unless anyone knows otherwise! Paignton only got as far as 123 for seven in reply.
The final will get under way after 4pm.
