Last week marked the final round of the Super 8s competition, the all-important decider for who advances to Finals Day.

Super 8s Pairs

The final round of the East group saw Ottery St Mary, Teignmouth & Shaldon, and Clyst St George face off for a place on Finals Day. Ottery opened against Teignmouth, posting an imposing 179, with Eva Bowring (28*) and Abbie Sullivan (27*) leading the way. Teignmouth struggled in reply, finishing on 94, 85 runs short.

In their second match, Ottery faced Clyst St George and again chose to bat. Sullivan (28*) and Bowring (28*) were consistent with the bat, helping Ottery to 136. Despite a solid 22 from Abi West, Clyst fell 14 runs short, securing Ottery’s spot in the finals.

Finally, Clyst St George fielded first against Teignmouth. Hayley Clarkeski’s 14* and Jade Kennelly’s 12* saw Teignmouth finish on 109 runs for 3 wickets. Clyst St George came out swinging hard, with Clare Pearson (29), Molly Walker (10), and Izzy Wills (14), helping the team to finish on 111, losing by 2 runs.

In the West group, Exwick conceded, leaving Hatherleigh to face Exmouth. Exmouth won the toss and batted first, posting a score of 142 for 4. Sonya Lowe (20*) and Elise Holman (17*) top scored for the Exmouth side, and Hatherleigh's Willow Nicholls taking 2 wickets! Hatherleigh batted strong down the order, with runs from Hazel Scrivener (18*), Liz Chapman (13*), and Melanie Clark (11*), to finish their innings on 147 runs, winning the game and securing their spot in finals day!

Super 8s Plate

In the East group, Whimple hosted Cullompton and Exmouth. Cullompton batted first against Whimple, finishing their innings on a score of 103 runs. Chloe Phillips and Jess Phillips led the batting charge, both retiring on 30*. Tight bowling from Cullompton saw Whimple all out for 63, with Hayley Hawkins taking home 3 wickets!

Whimple bounced back in their next match against Exmouth, restricting them to 88. A Watson (22*) and T Brenton (28) top-scored for Exmouth. In reply, Whimple chased it down with an over to spare, thanks to S Bomby (22*) and J Harris (12).

The final game saw Cullompton take on Exmouth. Exmouth batting first, posted a score of 73 runs, with S Antonio (12) and T Smith (10) top scoring, with each Cullompton batter taking home a wicket. Despite some early wickets, Cullompton quickly chased down the score in 13 overs, with C Phillips (23) and D Purkess (10) leading the charge.

Over in the West group, Clyst St George conceded, leaving just Bovey Tracey and Cornwood to battle it out for a place in finals day. Cornwood won the toss and batting first, posting a score of 116 runs for 3. Helly Simpson (32*) led the batting innings, with support from Sofia Oxenham (14) and Keeley Willcock (12*). In reply, Bovey Tracey struggled against Cornwood's tight bowling and were bowled out for just 45 in 8 overs, sealing Cornwood’s place in the Finals.

Super 8s Trophy

With Clyst St George conceding, Exeter hosted Exmouth in a one-off clash. Exmouth won the toss and chose to bat, posting 109-6, thanks to S Gerrick (33*) and L Humphreys (34). Exeter’s S Lilley impressed with the ball, taking 3 wickets. In reply, Exeter chased the target in 15 overs, led by L Vosper (31*), B Whittaker (32*), and F Dennehy (21).

In the West group, Hatherleigh hosted Plymouth and Bovey Tracey. Hatherleigh took on Bovey Tracey for the first game. Bovey set 96 all out with Holly Evans (36*) and Lauren Ellis (26) leading the charge. Hatherleigh chased it down comfortably in 10 overs without losing a wicket, Chloe Rose (30*), Mia Spears (27*), and Eloise Maxa (12*) sealing the win.

Next up, Plymouth took on Bovey Tracey, losing the toss and put into field first. Bovey Tracey lost a couple of early wickets, but thanks to Monica Gair’s 20 runs and Olive McCauley’s 15 runs saw the side end their innings 67 all out for 11 overs. Plymouth didn’t spend long at the crease, chasing down the score in 7 overs, with Jemima Johnson retiring on 32* and support from Melissa Banks (14*) and Beth Hall (6*).

Finally, Plymouth batting first against the home side, posting a score of 116 all out. Jemima Johnson finished on an impressive 42*, supported by Rosie Johnson (12*) and Lily Innes (15). Hatherleigh started strong, with Mia Spears retiring on 33*. However, the side struggled to build momentum, finishing on 93 all out off their 16 overs.

Finals Day

Super 8s Finals Day is set for Saturday, 17th August at Bovey Tracey CC, where the top teams will battle it out to be crowned Super 8s Champions of 2025!
