PREMIER DIVISION
Cornwood v Sandford
Sandford (Adam Small): Couple of changes this week. With Tom Maidment being available, he makes a well welcomed appearance for us again. After success in the 2nd XI against Teignmouth & Shaldon Ben Chaloner makes his first-team debut. Praison Alias is back into the side after wickets in the seconds. Fantastic win last week; looking to carry the momentum into this weekend.
Cornwood (Matt Skeemer): Myself, Alex Shutt and Adam Goodliffe come in to the team. Lots of positives with the ball to take from last week;’ just need to work on our application with the bat.
Exeter v Plymouth
Exeter (Jon Lewis-Oliver): Will Furniss (ex-of CSG and Berkswell) makes his debut this Saturday. He shows tremendous ability with the ball and also adds so much to the side with his all-round game and energy.
Plymouth (Ted Haffenden): Dinitha Onel and Harry Witcher out. Harry is making his Devon Lions debut on Sunday (v Dorset) so we wish him all the best. James Tilsley in to keep and Sam Burns back after his winter in Australia – great to have him back! Looking forward to getting back out there and kicking on from last week’s win over Hatherleigh.
Tavistock v Hatherleigh
Tavistock (Sean Cleave): We’re still ironing out a few changes, with James McGahey away on holiday and Jack Smyly returning to London, but the competition for places within the squad is strong and we’re focused on keeping the balance of the team right. Hatherleigh beat us comfortably twice last season on their way to winning the A Division, so we know exactly how tough a challenge they will provide. They’re always a strong side and we’re expecting another difficult game. We’re coming into this match off the back of a very good win, but there’s no danger of us getting ahead of ourselves. We know how demanding this season will be, and if we want to establish ourselves at this level, we’ll need to be fully focused and at our best every single week.
Hatherleigh (Rob Cockwill): Two changes this week. Emmerson Wood and Gareth Tidball in. Rob Fishleigh misses out due to a rugby cup final (Barnstaple v Okehampton). Ruben Forrester is unavailable to play away. Looking to improve on last week (v Plymouth). We didn’t play anywhere near our best and still got so close to a result. If we apply ourselves I am sure we can get a win under our belts. Tavistock look a lot stronger this season and appear to have recruited well. It will be a tough test. We have committed to the same side that got us to this position, so it will be interesting to see the difference in the two sides.
Bradninch & Kentisbeare v Paignton
Bradninch & Kentisbeare (Gary Chappell): A few availabilities to be confirmed before naming the side but our replacement overseas Muhammed Ismail won’t be here. He should arrive in time for next week’s game at Sandford and may get a few batters hopping about this season. The focus for now is on this week and we’re expecting a tough game against a Paignton side who are only getting better and always play well as a team.
Paignton (Harry Ward): Same team as last week after a good win, so hopefully we can carry some momentum into this week. It’s a bit of a free swing heading into one of the toughest fixtures on the calendar. We got the win at Kensham Park last year, so we know what it takes and the levels we need to reach. We’ll go out, enjoy the day, and hopefully the weather stays away.
Sidmouth v Exmouth
Sidmouth (Taylor Ingham-Hill): Adam Dibble out due to family commitments alongside Ethan Chiappe and Jens Wagstaff. They make way for Ed Horsfield, James Docherty and Matt Matravers. Looking to bounce back from what was an incredibly disappointing game last week.
Exmouth (James Horler): Looking to kick on from a good win last week. Important to build the momentum early in the season. Pete Turnbull and Louis Morison return. Fin Marks and Jack Dart at weddings. Assad Ullah comes in after a strong bowling performance last week.
