Thorverton CC have become the latest club to receive a Discretionary Development Grant from the Tolchards Devon Cricket League, with the grant going towards equipment to enable the club to run Walking Cricket sessions and develop girls' cricket.
Walking Cricket is a low-impact version of traditional cricket designed to accommodate players of all ages and abilities, especially older adults or those with reduced mobility. Walking Cricket has attracted interest from a range of adults, from former League cricketers to those who are enjoying the game for the very first time.
True to its name, running is not required; players walk to score runs and move between positions. The game retains the essence of cricket, including batting, bowling, and fielding, but with simplified rules and a slower pace to ensure inclusivity and enjoyment for everyone.
The Discretionary Development Grant from the League helped to purchase a bag of equipment, ensuring that no one has to think about purchasing cricket equipment just to take part.
The grant of £300.00 also went to support the development of girls’ cricket at the club.
