PLYMOUTH have strengthened for the Premier Division season ahead in the Tolchards DCL Premier Division by adding one familiar face – and a new one – to the playing roster.

Dan Goodey, a bowling all-rounder, has re-joined Plymouth after a spell living in Hampshire and playing Southern Premier League cricket for Bashley-Rydal. Goodey was a Devon regular in white-ball cricket before leaving the area in 2022.

Teenage all-rounder Callum Williams is on the way across town from Plympton for a first crack at Premier Division cricket. Callum, part of the Devon under-16 squad in 2025, is the son of former Plympton captain and Devon keeper-batter Jeremy Williams.

Goodey and Williams are the first significant signings made since Teddy Haffenden took over from Sam Stein as Plymouth skipper at the end of last season.

Goodey, 28, is currently playing Grade cricket in Melbourne for Brunswick CC. He averaged nearly 22 with the bat for Bashley-Rydal last season, and was the team’s leading wicket taker with 25 scalps.

Having gone through the ECB’S Elite Player Programme, the Devon age-group system and with numerous Premier Division runs and wickets next to his name, Goodey brings something valuable the dressing room.

“Dan will add a huge amount of experience to our side and contribute with bat, ball, and in the field,” said Haffenden.Dan Goodey hitting out for Devon against Cornwall

“He’s a great bloke to have around the group and an enthusiastic coach for our youngsters. Dan offers something to all areas of the club, and it’s awesome to have him back around.”

Goodey is already looking forward to returning to Mount Wise, where he has not played since the tail end of the 2021 season in a 59-run win over Sandford.

“I am really excited to be back playing for Plymouth again,” said Goodey. “There are a lot of exciting new faces and a new format since I last played, so looking forward to a new challenge with my home club.”

Williams made his Plympton 1st XI debut at the end of the 2023 season in a six-wicket Premier Division defeat at North Devon and has been a regular ever since. Highlights include three of Exmouth’s top five in 2024, and three-wicket hauls against Barton and Bovey last season.

“Coming off the back of an excellent year with Devon under-16s, Callum is more than ready to show us what he’s capable of,” said Haffenden.

“He’s a great lad as well — he knows a lot of the others through school and Devon cricket – so he’ll fit into the group with ease.

“I cannot wait to see Callum taking wickets at Mount Wise this year!”

Williams is the second former regular to leave Plympton since they were relegated from the A Division at the end of last season. Batter Elliot Hamilton had already committed to Tavistock for the season ahead.

Harry Kandampully, the Plympton captain, said losing a player with such a close association to the club was hard to take.

Said Kandampully: “We are, of course, disappointed to lose Callum to Plymouth, particularly as he described it as ‘an offer he couldn’t turn down’.

“That feeling is heightened given he is a young player who has come through our youth ranks and is the son of a Plympton great.

“I saw Callum recently and genuinely wish him every success with his studies, coaching and cricket this year.

“As a club, however, our focus remains clear. We are committed to developing young players and will continue to invest in that pathway.

“Giving opportunities to emerging talent, supported by our one-to-one coaching and player development approach, will remain at the heart of what we do as we bring the next generation through.”
