PAIGNTON 2nd XI take on Ipplepen at Bovey Tracey CC tonight (Thursday, 6pm) in the final of the Aaron Printers Cup.
It will be the 75th final of the competition, which was first won by Barton back in 1951. They defeated Torquay Co-Op to carry off what was then known as the J V Narracott Cup.
Ipplepen (142-7) overcame Torquay & Kingskerswell (139-7) by three-wickets in a last-over finish on the Moor Lane ground. Toby Alsop whacked Bobby Western for four to win it with three balls to spare.
Paignton’s (133) path to the final started with a five-run win over Stoke Gabriel (128-8) in a first-round nail-biter. Stoke needed nine runs from Andy Singh’s final over, but came up short.
Overhauled
Ashburton, the last team other than Bovey Tracey 2nd XI to lift the cup, stood in Paignton’s path in the last four. Their total of 133 for six was overhauled with nine balls remaining. Neil Hancock made 67 not out in a six-wicket win.
Five-times cup winners Bovey Tracey (2021-2025) were Ipplepen’s opponents in the second semi-final.
Warrick Green with three wickets and a rapid 33 not out had entries on both sides of the balance sheet for Ipplepen (171-6) in a 49-run win.
Ipplepen have not lifrted the trophy since 2017. Abbotskerswell were the losing finalists.
The last of Paignton's 10 wins in the final was 2019 when they defeated alsio Dartington & Totnes at South Devon CC.
No one has won the compeition more often than Barton (12). Paignton (10), Bovey Tracey (9) and now-defunct Cockington-Corinthians (8) are next in order.
Tonight’s man-of-the-match adjudicator is Bovey tries five-times cup winning captain Dan Green, who was the recipient of the Ted Dickinson Cup himself in 2023.
